Manchester City’s club record £57million transfer for centre back Aymeric Laporte has prevented his first club Sporting Union of Agen from going into administration.

The 23-year-old signed for the Premier League leaders from Athletic Bilbao in the January transfer window on a five-and-a-half-year deal.
Laporte started his career at the age of six at French club Agen, before moving to Aviron Bayonnais and then Bilbao.

The eighth-tier side were eligible for one per cent of the transfer fee and so received £570,000.
Laporte played four seasons in the club’s youth ranks from 12 to 16 and therefore qualified for one per cent of the fee as they were allowed 0.25 per cent every season in training rights compensation.
Agen’s co-president Jean-Claude Brunel told Spanish newspaper : ‘Fate knocks at our door. It is unexpected and a beautiful reward for our efforts.
‘If the ruling had not been manifested, we were determined to close at the end of the season as we were unable to meet the operating costs.’
