व्यापक दृष्टिकोण अपनाएं

काशी हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय के हजारों विद्यार्थियों और अध्यापकों के समक्ष भाषण करते हुए हमारे प्रधानमंत्री पं. जवाहरलाल नेहरू ने ऐसी बातें कही हैं, जिनकी ओर सारे राष्ट्र का ध्यान जाना आवश्यक है। चूंकि आज वह हमारे राष्ट्र के कर्णधार हैं, अपने अध्ययन और अनुभव का सहारा लेकर उन्होंने बताया है कि राष्ट्र का कल्याण किसमें है और किसमें खतरा है। उनका कहना है कि अपने हित का ध्यान तो हमें होना ही चाहिए, परन्तु उसके साथ समष्टि के हित का समन्वय न किया गया तो वह लाभप्रद न होगा। कारण कि विश्व की स्थिति आज ऐसी हो गई है कि सबसे अलग-थलग न तो रहा जा सकता है, न केवल अपने स्वार्थों के सहारे कोई महत्वपूर्ण योगदान किया जा सकता है।

जहां तक राष्ट्रीयता का संबंध है, नेहरूजी कहते हैं : ‘राष्ट्रीयता ने हमारे देश को जीवन और बल प्रदान किया है और साम्प्रदायिक दृष्टिकोण जैसी जो भी बात राष्ट्रीयता के मार्ग में बाधक हो, उसकी भारतीय जनता निन्दा करती है। हम राष्ट्रीय एकता और राष्ट्रीय दृष्टिकोण चाहते हैं। हमें अपनी राष्ट्रीयता पर गर्व है और राष्ट्रीय हमें होना ही चाहिए।’ लेकिन, वह यह चेतावनी भी देते हैं कि राष्ट्रीयता की अति नहीं होनी चाहिए। उसे खतरनाक बताते हुए वह कहते हैं कि उस हालत में वह साम्राज्यवाद का रूप ले सकती है या आत्मश्लाघा का, ये दोनों ही सूरतें अवांछनीय हैं। ‘अपने घमण्ड और अपनी धृष्टता में कोई राष्ट्र यह सोचने लगे कि वह सब कुछ जानता है और दूसरों से उसे कुछ भी सीखने की जरूरत नहीं है, तो समझ लीजिए कि उसका अधःपतन शुरू हो गया।’

भारत का निर्माण पूर्ण सामयिक न्याय के साथ लोकतंत्रीय रूप में करने की प्रेरणा करते हुए नेहरूजी कहते हैं कि विभिन्न विचारों का समन्वय करने के लिए हमें प्रयत्न करना चाहिए और हमसे गलतियां हों, तब भी ऐसे प्रयत्न को जारी रखना चाहिए, ‘क्या हम वैयक्तिक और लोकतंत्रीय स्वतन्त्रता का सम्पूर्ण सामाजिक प्रगति के साथ मेल बैठा सकते हैं?’ और ‘क्या हम केन्द्रीयकरण का वैयक्तिक स्वतन्त्रता के साथ मेल बैठा सकते हैं?’ ये प्रश्न करके वह बताते हैं कि यूरोप और एशिया में सामाजिक प्रगति की एक आम आकांक्षा हो रही है, जिसे समाजवाद या कुछ भी कह लीजिए, उसका सामान्य लोकतन्त्र के साथ मेल नहीं बैठाया गया तो लोकतन्त्र का अन्त हो जायेगा।

While speaking in front of thousands of students and teachers of Kashi Hindu University, our Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru has said such things which need to be noticed by the entire nation. Since today he is the leader of our nation, with the help of his studies and experience he has told what is good for the nation and what is dangerous. He says that we must take care of our own interests, but if it is not coordinated with the interests of the society, then it will not be beneficial. Because the situation of the world today has become such that one cannot remain isolated from everyone, nor can any significant contribution be made only with the help of one’s own interests.

As far as nationalism is concerned, Nehruji says: ‘Nationalism has given life and strength to our country and the Indian people condemn anything that hinders nationalism like communal attitude. We want national unity and national attitude. We are proud of our nationalism and we must be national.’ But, he also warns that nationalism should not be overdone. Describing it as dangerous, he says that in that condition it can take the form of imperialism or self-praise, both these situations are undesirable. ‘If in its pride and arrogance any nation starts thinking that it knows everything and does not need to learn anything from others, then understand that its downfall has begun.’

While inspiring to build India in a democratic form with complete contemporary justice, Nehruji says that we should try to coordinate different ideas and even if we commit mistakes, such efforts should be continued, ‘Can we reconcile individual and democratic freedom with complete social progress?’ and ‘Can we reconcile centralization with individual freedom?’ By asking these questions, he shows that in Europe and Asia there is a general aspiration for social progress, call it socialism or whatever, but if it is not reconciled with normal democracy, it will lead to the end of democracy.
