Rian Johnson plans Knives Out 3 as Glass Onion opens to theaters

Rian Johnson revealed he is already planning the third installment of the Knives Out franchise even though Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery just released on Thursday.

In a new interview, the 48-year-old director got candid about progress towards the third installment in the series.

‘It’s interesting. We structured the [Netflix deal] so that if I wanted to do something else next, I could. And 카지노사이트추천 I think everybody assumed I’d have a couple other random ideas — unrelated projects — that I’ve been kicking around. But, honestly, over the past couple of months, the most exciting creative thing to me right now is that third movie,’ he told

Johnson confirmed that the process has already begun as he is the creative mind behind the mystery series and also the director.

‘I’ve got a Moleskine notebook that I carry everywhere, and I’m constantly jotting stuff down in it. The first 80 percent of the process, for me, is scribbling in notebooks and structuring it all out,’ he shared.

‘I’m trying to get ahead. Even when I’m doing all the publicity for this film, I’m trying to start building up a structure, an idea, so that after New Year when it’s time to actually get to work, I’m hopefully not just staring at that horrible blank page. But you always are, I guess.’

Rian explained that the whodunnit genre is not very expansive, and he is ‘trying to dig deeper into the genre and see if there are any hidden gems [he’s] missing.’

As with the first Knives Out movie, Johnson assembled an all-star cast for Glass Onion including Edward Norton, Daniel Craig, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr., and Dave Bautista.

Craig commented that he has faith writer/producer Johnson will continue to guide the creative process as he plans the next Knives out production.

Daniel said, ‘Rian seems to me to be very excited about getting on with the next one. He’s already got some ideas, and they sound to me to be really interesting, so I’m going to let him just get on with that.’

Glass Onion, Craig’s first significant move away from the Bond franchise, follows a party of sycophants and friends of Ed Norton’s brilliantly played billionaire Miles, who find themselves trapped on an island with a murderer on the loose.

Craig´s detective Benoit Blanc is the only returning character – with the British actor admitting he worked as hard as he could to get back into the headspace of the Southern sleuth – especially given his trademark accent.

Commenting on making more Knives Out films, Craig said, ‘if people are interested, then we’ll make them. But if there ever came a point where either Rian and I thought we were just churning them out, I think we would back away.

‘I mean, I just don’t think that’s what either of us want to do in life. Unless people are getting genuine fun out of them, forget it,’ he said.

Rian agreed with Daniel on keeping people interested with fresh ideas.

‘Daniel and I have talked a lot about that, how the instant we feel like we’re turning the crank on another one of these, we have to stop.

‘So, it’s very important with each one now, and the third one especially, that it feels kind of scary and dangerous. You have to shake the box.’

The new film – a follow-up of 2019’s Knives Out with Craig returning as Detective Benoit Blanc – arrived on the big screen November 23 for a one-week theatrical run before it debuts on Netflix December 23.
