Vienna, Agency. More than 3 million children died in the world due to the ineffectiveness of antibiotics given to cure infection. This was revealed in a new study.
This study was presented during the ‘ESCM ID Global 2025’ program in Vienna, Austria. In this, concern was raised about the serious problem in children in areas like South-East Asia and Africa. In 2022 alone, 7.5 lakh children died in South-East Asia and 6.6 lakh children in Africa due to complications related to PMR.

7.5 Lakh children died in South East Asia
They should be used only for those who really need them, so that these medicines remain effective and bacteria do not develop resistance against them. In contrast, ‘access’ antibiotics are easily available and are used to treat common infections because there is less risk of bacteria developing resistance to them.
Study co-author Professor Jirak Harwell said, ‘Excessive use of these medicines, especially without proper monitoring, can pose a big threat in the future.
