Tens of thousands of SUVs are being recalled in Australia due to a potential software risk that could result in the car overheating and catching on fire.
Kia Australia has recalled its Sportage mid-size SUV and Sorento seven-seat SUV – two of its most popular vehicles.
The safety recall encompasses SUV models from 2015 to 2021 for the Sportage and 2014 to 2020 for the Sorento.
The automaker warns affected motorists not to drive their vehicle until the issue is fixed.
Kia said the repair will take approximately ’45 minutes to complete’.

A recall notice was published on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications.
‘Due to a software issue, the Heater Core Element may operate at a higher than intended temperature causing damage to connector,’ it read.
‘If this occurs, it may result in a vehicle fire.’

The notice added that affected Kia Sportage and Sorento owners should schedule an appointment with their local Kia dealership immediately to fix the issue.
Technicians will update the hvac room (https://www.smartguy.com/best-air-conditioning-heating-contractors-commercial-beverly-hills-ca-usa) control unit software and inspect the heater core element and connector.
‘The Heater Core Element and connector should also be inspected and replaced if damaged,’ Kia added.
No deaths or injuries have been reported due to the software fault.
