देश की राजधानी दिल्ली इन दिनों किताबों से गुलजार है। यहां विश्व पुस्तक मेला चल रहा है, जो पुस्तक प्रेमियों के लिए एक शानदार उत्सव है और साहित्यिक महाकुंभ बन चुका है। इसमें सैकड़ों स्टॉल लगे हैं, जहां देश-विदेश की किताबें उपलब्ध हैं। पाठक यहां किताबों को न सिर्फ देख सकते हैं, बल्कि उनकी खरीदारी भी कर सकते हैं। यहां आयोजित कार्यक्रमों में लेखक, पाठक और संपादक, सभी एक साथ विचारों का आदान-प्रदान करते हैं। यहां लोग अपनी पसंद की पुस्तकें खरीदते हैं और नई रचनाओं से रूबरू होते है, लेकिन इस उत्सव की खुशी में कुछ समस्याएं भी जुड़ी हुई हैं।

वास्तव में, प्रगति मैदान के आसपास भारी ट्रैफिक जाम और मेले के प्रवेश द्वार पर लगने वाली लंबी-लंबी कतारें दिल दुखाती हैं, जो दर्शकों का बहुत सारा समय बर्बाद कर रही हैं। पहले दिन करीब एक लाख लोग पहुंचे, तो रविवार को रिकॉर्ड दो लाख से अधिक पुस्तक प्रेमी आए, लेकिन इन बड़ी संख्याओं के साथ ट्रैफिक की मार और घंटों कतार में खड़े रहने की मजबूरी ने कई लोगों का उत्साह कम किया। निःशुल्क प्रवेश का सरकारी निर्णय सराहनीय है, लेकिन इससे काफी अधिक संख्या में लोग यहां पहुंच रहे हैं। इनमें उन लोगों की संख्या भी कम नहीं है, जो सिर्फ तफरीह करने के लिए मेला परिसर आ रहे हैं। उनको किताबों से कोई खास लगाव नहीं है। इसलिए अब समय आ गया है कि बर्बाद स्थानीय प्रशासन और ट्रैफिक विभाग मिलकर पुख्ता इंतजाम करें, ताकि लोगों का वक्त जाम और लंबी लाइनों में नहीं। ऐसे लोगों को भी रोका जाए, जो यूं ही मेला परिसर आ रहे हैं।

प्रवेश लोग न सिर्फ आसानी से मेले में कर सकें, बल्कि मेला स्थल तक पहुंचने के लिए मेट्रो से अच्छी शटल व्यवस्था भी की जाए, ताकि यहां अपनी गाड़ी लाना मजबूरी न हो। साथ ही, उन लोगों को भी घूमने के इरादे से यहां आ रहे हैं। पार्किंग हतोत्साहित करने के प्रयास हों, जो सिर्फ सुविधा, वैकल्पिक रास्तों का प्रबंधन और प्रवेश द्वारों पर तेज प्रोसेसिंग सिस्टम जैसे कदम उठाए जाने की जरूरत है, ताकि पुस्तक प्रेमी अधिक समय स्टॉल पर बिता सकें और किताबों की अपनी जिज्ञासा शांत कर सकें। ये लेखकों से मिल सकें, विचार-विमर्श कर सके और किताबों की दुनिया में खो सकें। पुस्तक मेले में निःशुल्क प्रवेश किताबों को जन-जन तक पहुंचाने की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण कदम है, लेकिन इसका सुफल तभी मिल सकेगा, जब मेलास्थल पर पहुंचाने और यहां घूमने की पूरी प्रक्रिया सुगम व आरामदायक हो। इससे यह मेला वास्तव में हर पुस्तक प्रेमी के लिए आकर्षक बन जाएगा।

The national capital, Delhi, is currently buzzing with books. The World Book Fair is underway here, a magnificent celebration for book lovers and a literary extravaganza. Hundreds of stalls have been set up, offering books from India and abroad. Readers can not only browse the books but also purchase them. Authors, readers, and editors all exchange ideas at the various events held here. People buy their favorite books and discover new works, but this festive atmosphere is marred by some problems.

In fact, the heavy traffic jams around Pragati Maidan and the long queues at the fair’s entrance are disheartening, wasting a lot of visitors’ time. On the first day, about one lakh people arrived, and on Sunday, a record-breaking two lakh book lovers visited. However, these large numbers, coupled with traffic congestion and the compulsion to stand in queues for hours, dampened the enthusiasm of many. The government’s decision to offer free entry is commendable, but it has led to a significantly larger number of people attending. Among them are many who are simply visiting the fairgrounds for leisure, without any particular interest in books. Therefore, it is high time that the local administration and the traffic department work together to make robust arrangements so that people’s time is not wasted in traffic jams and long queues. Those who are simply visiting the fairgrounds without a genuine interest in books should also be discouraged.

Entry to the fair should be made easier, and a good shuttle service from the metro station to the fairgrounds should be provided so that bringing one’s own vehicle is not a necessity. Efforts should also be made to discourage those who are coming here merely for sightseeing. Measures such as providing convenient alternative routes, managing traffic effectively, and implementing faster processing systems at the entry gates are needed so that book lovers can spend more time at the stalls and satisfy their curiosity about books. They should be able to meet authors, engage in discussions, and immerse themselves in the world of books. Free entry to the book fair is a significant step towards making books accessible to everyone, but its full benefits will only be realized if the entire process of reaching the fairgrounds and navigating the venue is smooth and comfortable. This will truly make the fair attractive to every book lover.
