It is not possible to delete an app from the Play Console once it has been “Removed by Google” or “Suspended by Google”. For auditing purposes and to prevent developers from circumventing policy violations, Google permanently keeps these apps in your account.
While you cannot delete the app, you have two primary options for how to proceed: appeal the removal or publish a new version under a different package name.
Option 1: Appeal the suspension
If you believe your app was removed in error, you can appeal the decision.
- Review the policy violation: Carefully read the reason Google gave for the removal or suspension. Your app cannot be reinstated if it still violates Google’s policy.
- Fix the app: Correct the issues identified by Google. This may involve removing violating content or features.
- Submit an appeal: Use the official appeal form to explain the changes you have made to bring the app into compliance. In your appeal, describe what you fixed and how it now meets the policy.
- Wait for review: Google will review your appeal. If it is successful, the app may be reinstated.
Option 2: Publish a new version (with changes)
If you agree with the policy violation or your appeal is denied, you can publish a new version of the app as a brand new entry.
- Ensure compliance: Create a new version of your app that fully complies with all Google Play policies. The old, suspended version remains associated with your account and cannot be updated.
- Use a new package name: Since package IDs are unique and permanent, you cannot reuse the package name from the suspended app. You will need to create a new app with a slightly different package ID.
- Upload the new app: Submit the new, policy-compliant version to the Play Console for review, just as you would for any new app.
What happens to a removed or suspended app?
- For users: Users who already have the app installed on their devices can continue to use it, but they will not receive any further updates. New users will not be able to find and download it from the Play Store.
- In your console: The app will remain in your Play Console’s “All apps” list with a “Removed” or “Suspended” status. The listing is not visible to the public.
