Migrants from Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Colombia arrived in Philadelphia on Wednesday after Texas Governor Greg Abbott bused them to the sanctuary city as he attempts to ‘secure our border.’
On Tuesday, US district judge Emmet Sullivan scrapped the Trump-era Title 42 immigration policy that allowed the US to immediately expel migrants and deny their right to seek asylum.
Abbott announced on Tuesday that Philadelphia would be the next destination for migrants the state is transporting from the U.S.-Mexico border by the thousands to Democratic-led locales.
Advocates who welcomed the migrants on Wednesday as they arrived before dawn offered winter coats, hot chocolate and blankets.
‘In general, people feel relieved.
We want them to know that they have a home here,’ said Philadelphia City Council member Helen Gym.
‘There’s a 10-year-old who’s completely dehydrated. It’s one of the more inhumane aspects that they would put a child who was dehydrated with a fever now, a very high fever (on the bus),’ Gym said.
‘It’s a terrible situation.’

‘The kids are frightened, they’re exhausted, they’re tired,’ said Emilio Buitrago of the nonprofit Casa de Venezuela.
‘They’re going to go to a place … where they’re going to have comfy, warm beds with a blanket, and warm food.
From there, we’re going to work on relocation.’
Some of the families hope to unite with relatives or friends in other locations, Gym said.
Meanwhile, more than 1,500 Venezuelan migrants camped on the Rio Grande across from El Paso, Texas were seen late last night, while thousands more are believed to be lining up around the border elsewhere.
Several migrants were also spotted over the border on U.S.
soil earlier today, with a group of migrants from Venezuela pictured saying a prayer after making the crossing.
The move is predicted to put a huge strain on agents, who are anticipated to see a ‘surge’ of illegal crossings in the coming days and weeks.
‘If you think things are bad now, just wait for the s**t show that’s coming,’ the National Border Patrol Council wrote on Twitter.
Ronny Jackson, the former White House doctor who now serves as a congressman representing Texas, urged his followers to pray for the Border Patrol.
‘Title 42 was just ENDED and a new SURGE of illegals will now head for our southern border,’ he said.
‘PRAY for our brave Border Patrol agents, it’s a SHAME that Biden won’t lift a finger to support them.

Texas has transported more than 13,000 migrants to those cities since April. Abbott has sent the buses to Democratic-led cities as a way to maximize exposure over what he says is inaction by the Biden administration over high numbers of migrants crossing on the southern border.
‘This will further signal to cartels, human smugglers, & illegal immigrants that the border is wide open – inciting more violence & lawlessness.
Disastrous,’ Abbott said.

Arizona congressman Andy Biggs called it a ‘grave mistake’.
‘An activist judge legislating from the bench just blocked the usage of Title 42 at the border amid a historic crisis,’ he said.
‘This means millions of illegal aliens (many dangerous) will be allowed entry into the country.
This decision is a grave mistake.’
And Marsha Blackburn, senator for Tennessee, said: ‘Title 42 preserves our nation’s sovereignty.
‘Our country has every right to protect that sovereignty, and we must support policies that put our national security first.’
The scheme was implemented by the Trump administration in March 2020, and designed amid the pandemic to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Migrants were no longer allowed to be processed in the United States, instead being sent back across the border to Mexico.
President Joe Biden had earlier attempted to lift it and set a date for May 23, 2022, arguing that the pandemic-era justification had passed, but was blocked by a federal court in Louisiana, which ruled on May 20 that the policy had to stay in place.
