आधुनिक इलाज से स्थिति संभल रही।

यह सही है कि दुनिया भर में बच्चों को होने वाले कैंसर ने चिकित्सा विज्ञान के सामने गंभीर चिंता पैदा की है, लेकिन चिकित्सा विज्ञान के क्षेत्र में हो रहे नए शोधों ने इस चिंता को काफी हद तक कम भी किया है। ऐसा सिर्फ विदेश में ही नहीं होता। भारत में भी इस रोग पर काफी हद तक नियंत्रण पाने के सफल प्रयास हुए हैं। एम्स का ही उदाहरण लें। आंकड़े बताते हैं कि करीब दस साल पहले कैंसर से पीड़ित बच्चों में से 50 फीसदी से भी कम को बचा पाना संभव हो पाता था, क्योंकि हमारे पास उस तरह की तकनीक नहीं थी, लेकिन अब हर चार में से तीन बच्चे ठीक हो रहे हैं। इसका अर्थ है कि 75 फीसदी बच्चे कैंसर को हराने में सफल साबित हो रहे हैं, जो संकेत है कि भारत में कैंसर के इलाज ने कितनी तरक्की कर ली है। अच्छी बात है कि इसमें लगातार सुधार श्री हो रहा है, यानी चिकित्सा विज्ञान इस दिशा में लगातार आगे बढ़ता दिख रहा है। यहां मध्य प्रदेश की चर्चा जरूरी है।

पिछले साल दिसंबर में खबर आई थी कि वहां के नेताजी सुभाष चंद्र बोस मेडिकल कॉलेज के पीडियाट्रिक कैंसर विभाग में 90 प्रतिशत से अधिक बच्चे कैंसर से उबर चुके हैं। खबर बताती है कि बीते दो वर्षों में वहां 316 बच्चों का कैंसर का इलाज किया गया, जिनमें से लगभग 270 बच्चे पूरी तरह से ठीक हो गए। इस संस्थान में पूरे राज्य से कैंसर पीड़ित मरीज भेजे जाते हैं, जिसका अर्थ है कि गंभीर स्थिति के मरीज भी अब ठीक हो रहे हैं। यानी, कैंसर जैसी जानलेवा बीमारी के मामले में भी पूर्ण सफलता पाई जा सकती है, बशर्ते समय पर सही रणनीति बनाई जाए और उस पर संजीदगी से अमल किया जाए। मध्य प्रदेश में आम आदमी के साथ-साथ डॉक्टरों में बच्चों के कैंसर के प्रति जागरूकता बढ़ाने का प्रयास किया गया। इसके लिए समय-समय पर सम्मेलन आदि कराए जा रहे हैं, जिनसे डॉक्टरों में इस रोग को लेकर समझ बढ़ी है और वे कहीं अधिक दक्षता से इसके इलाज में सफल हो पा रहे हैं। साफ है, इस तरह के प्रयास यदि पूरे देश के स्तर पर किए जाएं, तो और भी बेहतर तस्वीर हम देख सकेंगे।

ऐसा नहीं है कि यह बदलाव भारत में ही हो रहा है। दुनिया भर के देश, खासतौर से विकसित मुल्कों में नई-नई तकनीकों से न सिर्फ रोग की पहचान की जा रही है,। बल्कि उनका इलाज भी किया जा रहा है। इसीलिए, यह कहना गलत नहीं होगा कि कैंसर को लेकर बेशक कभी भय का माहौल रहा करता था, लेकिन आज इसे ऐसी बीमारी के रूप में देखा जा रहा है, जिसका इलाज संभव है। इससे मरीजों में आत्मविश्वास बढ़ा है और वे रोग पर जल्द विजय पाने लगे हैं।

This isn’t just happening abroad. Successful efforts have been made to significantly control this disease in India as well. Take the example of AIIMS. Statistics show that about ten years ago, fewer than 50 percent of children with cancer were able to survive because we didn’t have the technology. Now, three out of every four children are recovering. This means that 75 percent of children are successfully defeating cancer, which is a sign of the progress cancer treatment has made in India. Fortunately, there are continuous improvements, meaning medical science is steadily progressing in this direction. It’s important to discuss Madhya Pradesh here.

In December last year, news broke that more than 90 percent of children had recovered from cancer in the Pediatric Cancer Department of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College. The report states that in the past two years, 316 children have been treated for cancer, of whom approximately 270 have fully recovered. Cancer patients from across the state are referred to this institute, meaning that even those with critical conditions are now recovering. This means that even a life-threatening disease like cancer can be completely cured, provided the right strategy is formulated and implemented diligently. In Madhya Pradesh, efforts have been made to raise awareness about pediatric cancer among both the public and doctors. Conferences are being held periodically, which have increased doctors’ understanding of the disease and enabled them to treat it with greater efficiency. Clearly, if such efforts are implemented nationwide, we will see an even better picture.

This change is not unique to India. In countries around the world, especially developed ones, new technologies are not only being used to diagnose diseases but also to treat them. Therefore, it would not be wrong to say that while cancer was once a source of fear, today it is seen as a treatable disease. This has boosted patients’ confidence, and they are beginning to overcome their illness more quickly.
