कोलकाता में था देश का पहला हथियार कारखाना
भारत में आज ऑर्डनेंस फैक्ट्री डे मनाया जा रहा है। इस फैक्ट्री की स्थापना ब्रिटिश शासन के दौरान हुई थी और इसका उद्देश्य सेना के लिए हथियार और गोला-बारूद तैयार करना था। समय के साथ भारत में कई आयुध फैक्ट्रियां स्थापित हुईं, जिन्होंने देश की रक्षा क्षमता को मजबूत करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।
भारत में आयुध निर्माण से जुड़ी इकाइयां कानपुर, जबलपुर जैसे शहरों में भी स्थापित की गई, जहां विभिन्न प्रकार के हथियार और सैन्य उपकरण बनाए जाते हैं
आज भी यह इकाई कोलकाता में गन एंड शेल फैक्ट्री, काशीपुर के नाम से जानी जाती है और रक्षा उत्पादन से जुड़े कई कार्य यहां किए जाते रहे हैं हैं। इस फैक्ट्री ने आधुनिक तकनीकों को अपनाया और कई प्रकार के उपकरणों में योगदान दिया।
इस फैक्ट्री में बड़ी संख्या में कारीगरों और तकनीशियनों को रोजगार मिला। यहां धातु ढलाई, हथियारों के पुर्जों का निर्माण और गोला-बारूद तैयार करने का काम होता था।
स्वतंत्रता के बाद भारत ने रक्षा उत्पादन में आत्मनिर्भर बनने के लिए आयुध फैक्ट्रियों के विस्तार पर विशेष ध्यान दिया।
Today, Ordnance Factory Day is being celebrated across India. This factory was established during the British era with the objective of manufacturing arms and ammunition for the military. Over time, numerous ordnance factories were established across India, playing a pivotal role in bolstering the nation’s defense capabilities.
Units dedicated to ordnance manufacturing were also established in cities such as Kanpur and Jabalpur, where a diverse range of weapons and military equipment are produced.
Even today, this facility in Kolkata is known as the Gun and Shell Factory, Kashipur, and continues to undertake various activities related to defense production. The factory has embraced modern technologies and contributed to the development of a wide array of equipment.
This factory provided employment to a large number of artisans and technicians. Operations conducted here included metal casting, the manufacturing of weapon components, and the production of ammunition.
Following independence, India placed special emphasis on the expansion of its ordnance factories in a concerted effort to achieve self-reliance in defense production.
