अमेरिको इतिहासकार बारबरा डब्ल्यू टचमैन ने फड़ा है कि पुस्तकें सभ्यता की * चाहक होती है। इनके बिना इतिहास मौन है, साहित्य गूंगा, विज्ञान अपेग, विचार और अटकले स्थिर हैं। पुस्तकें परिवर्तन काईलन होती हैं, दुनिया की खिड़कियों और समय के समुद्र में खड़ा प्रकाशस्तंभहै। इन दिनों राजधानी दिल्ली के प्रगति मैदान स्थित ‘ भारत मंडपम’ में विश्व पुस्तक मेला चल रहा है। यह स्याहित्यिक उत्सव है, जो अगले रविवार (18 जनवरी) तक चलेगा। मालूम हो कि इस मेले में 35 से अधिक देशों के 1,000 से ज्यादा प्रकाशक शिरकत कर रहे हैं। इस मेले की खासियत यहां होने वाले साहित्यिक आयोजन है। इस बार करीब 600 कार्यक्रम होंगे, जिनमें लेखकों से संवाद और पुस्तकों का विमोचन तो होगा ही, कार्यशालाएं भी आयोजित की जाएंगी। दिल्ली का यह पुस्तक मेला बिल्कुल अलग एहसास देता है। नहीं कारण है है कि कि इस मेले में हर वर्ग के लोगों को शामिल होना चाहिए, खासतौर से युवाओं को, क्योंकि इसमें आपको ऐसी पुस्तकें मिल सकती हैं, जो आपके करियर के लिए महत्वपूर्ण साबित हों। आज बेशक इंटरनेट का जमाना है, लेकिन पुस्तकों का भी महत्व बना हुआ है। खास तौर पर धर्म, संस्कृति और अन्य प्राचीन तथ्यों की जानकारी हमें पुस्तकों से जितनी मिल सकती है, उतनी शायद इंटरनेट से न मिले। इतना ही नहीं, इस तरह के मेले की जरूरत इसलिए भी है, क्योंकि एक ही जगह आपको तमाम विधाओं की किताबें मिल जाती हैं। आपको कहीं और भटकने की जरूरत नहीं पड़ती। इसलिए, पुस्तक मेले का आयोजन सुखद है। ऐसे आयोजन रोजमर्रा के हमारे जीवन में नया उल्लास भरते हैं।

किताबें मेरे और उनके बीच पुल बनाती है। मैं करती हूं सवाल और वे जवाब बनाती है। नई दिल्ली में आगोजित ‘विश्व पुस्तक मेला’ पूरी सर्दी के मौसम का सबसे शानदार दिन होता है। साहित्य से नजदीकी हमारे व्यक्तित्व में ज्यादा बदलाव नहीं, तो एक संवेदनशील इंसान बनने में हमारी मदद जरूर करती है, बशर्ते पुस्तकों के चयन में हम थोड़ी विविधता रखें। किताबों को पढ़ते हुए, हमें पात्रों/घटनाओं के माध्यम से न जाने कितने अनजान रास्तों से गुजरते हुए विविधताओं से भरे अपने समाज / देश को जानने का अवसर मिलता है। किताबों में पढ़े स्थानों की जब हम यात्रा करते हैं, तो वह एक सपने के सच होने जैसा लगता है और जाना-पहचाना-सा भी। तो खूब पढ़ें और जितना संभव हो घूमें। विश्व पुस्तक मेला तो जरूर जाइए।
