A Permanent Account Number (PAN) card is considered one of the most important financial documents for the citizens of India as it helps a person with filing their income tax return. The PAN card not only facilitates KYC but helps with many day-to-day services, such as opening a bank account, obtaining a debit or credit card, carrying out huge money-related transactions.

It is a 10-character alphanumeric identification number assigned to all tax-payers in India. But what happens if you end up misplacing or losing it?

PAN card holders can download an instant e-PAN or digital version of their PAN card using the online facility of the income tax department. The entire procedure is user-friendly and it just uses your Aadhaar number and hardly takes 10 minutes.

Steps to download instant e-PAN

Step 1: Visit the official website of Income Tax e-filing https://www.incometax.gov.in.

Step 2: Under the section “Our Services”, search for the option ‘Instant e-PAN’.

Step 3: If you have downloaded e-PAN earlier, click on the ‘Check Status/Download e-PAN’ option, but you need to click on the ‘Get new e-Pan’ option if you haven’t downloaded e-PAN in the past.

Step 4: You must choose as per your requirement from the given options and then click on continue.

Step 5: Now, the page will open asking you to enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. So, enter your Aadhaar number in the input field.

Step 6: As soon as you enter your Aadhaar number, the page will display a declaration, you need to click on continue.

Step 7: Next, an OTP will be sent to your registered or Aadhar-linked mobile number.

Step 8: Then, enter the OTP you have received on your mobile in the given field.

Step 9: The page will now display all your details. After checking all the information carefully, enter your email address in the specified field.

Step 10: You will soon receive your e-PAN in your email inbox. You can also get your e-PAN printed.

Point to note: If you have your PAN number, you can also download your e-PAN from the websites of UTIITSL or TIN-NSDL, depending upon where your original PAN card was generated.

The digital version of the PAN card or e-PAN is equally valid and can be used in the place of the original PAN card.

Your Set-Top Box Will Now Support more DTH Operators

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has decided that set-top boxes will be interoperable from now on so that in case customers wanted to switch their service providers, they wouldn’t need to change their set top boxes every time. 
As of now, the STBs that are offered by telecom operators are non-interoperable, which means that if you change your telecom provider, you will need a new set top box for the new one.
TRAI To Make Set Top Boxes Interoperable :-
The discussion of making the set top boxes interoperability has been on the table for a long time now and TRAI has finally made the decision to make it official. TRAI has stated that all the set top boxes in the entire country should support technical interoperability. 

Additionally, DTH and Multi-System Operators (MSOs) have been given a time period of six months to adapt to the new changes. As per TRAI, the new standard is DVB CI Plus 2.0 (with USB CAM) as per the ESTI TS 103 605 standards.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) will probably include a suitable clause to ‘compulsorily facilitate’ the service of interoperability of set top boxes.
However, we should remember that the set top boxes of DTH and cable TV operators will not be interoperable. This means that a DTH subscriber cannot change to cable TV and vice versa. The reason behind this is that there are technical and commercial constraints to the universal STB, and hence, the interoperability will be applicable within the DTH and within the cable segment respectively.
USB Port-based Common Interface :-
TRAI has also advised that there be a mandatory provision of USB port-based Common Interface for all the digital television sets in India. The MIB, TRAI and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will probably request BIS to change the specifications for digital television sets to include USB based Common Interface port as per DVI CI Plus 2.0 standard based on ETS TS 103 605.

All the TV manufacturers must provide all digital television sets with minimum one open interface port that is based on DVB CI Plus 2.0 standards that will allow a simple connection of USB CAM to allow reception of television signals. They will also be required to launch TV sets with built-in tuners to enable the reception of television content through both satellite and cable platforms.

For security.

The files are not world writeable. They are restricted to the owner of the files for writing.

The web server has to be run under a specific user. That user must exist.

If it were run under root, then all the files would have to be accessible by root and the user would need to be root to access the files. With root being the owner, a compromised web server would have access to your entire system. By specifying a specific ID a compromised web server would only have full access to its files and not the entire server.

If you decide to run it under a different user ID, then that user would need to be the effective owner of the files for proper privileges. It could be confusing to have personal ownership of system-wide files to your personal account.

Creating a specific user would make it easier to recognize the files and consistent to recognize which ID to chown to new files and folders added to the site.

The Userid or Name of the owner doesn’t matter. Whatever is chosen or decided upon will have to be configured in the web server configuration files.

By default the configuration of the owner is www-data in the Ubuntu configuration of Apache2. Since that is the default configuration, you conveniently know the ownership needed for your web files. If you change it, you would have to change the files in your site to match.

It’s not a good idea to have write permissions on the entire folder, the most websites (for example: wordpress, joomla and magento) needs write permission on specific folders (image upload, file upload) A better way is to give write permission on folders and do not allow script (PHP, python) execution, always check if the user is uploading the right content, example, if you website allow an user to upload an image as it avatar, check if it is an image and not a fake image with PHP script inside. And the problem to have write permissions on the website root is if someone finds an vulnerability he could use that to write a new index.php file and ‘hack’ your website.
