महान
एक बच्चा अपने पिता से पूछता है- ‘पापा, आखिर महान शब्द का मतलब क्या होता है? मैंने बहुत जगह पढ़ा है कि वो व्यक्ति महान था, उसने ये किया, उसने वो किया, आप मुझे समझाओ महान लोग कौन होते हैं और वे महान कैसे बनते हैं?’ पिता ने बेटे को महान शब्द का अर्थ समझाने की एक तरकीब सोची। उन्होंने
बेटे से कहा-‘चलो दो पौधे लेकर आते है। एक को घर के अंदर लगा देते है और दूसरे को घर के बाहर। पौधे लगाने के बाद पिता ने पूछा- ‘बेटा, तुम्हें क्या लगता है इन दोनों पौधों में से कौन-सा पौधा बड़ा होगा और सुरक्षित रहेगा?’ बेटे ने कहा, ‘पिता जी ये भी कोई पूछने वाली बात है। जो पौधा हमारे घर के अंदर है, वो सुरक्षित है और वही बड़ा और विशालकाय भी बनेगा। बाहर वाला पौधा बिल्कुल सुरक्षित नहीं है। उसे बहुत सारे मौसम झेलने होंगे। उसे कोई जानवर भी खा सकता है।’ पिता जी शांत रहे और कहा बेटे से कहा कि मैं वक्त आने पर इस सवाल का जवाब दूंगा। बेटा पढ़ाई करने चार सालों के लिए बाहर चला जाता है और जब वापस आता है, तो घर के अंदर के पौधे को देखकर कहा- ‘पापा मैंने कहा था न कि इस पौधे को कुछ नहीं होगा।’ पिता मुस्कुराए और कहा- ‘बेटा जरा बाहर जाकर उस दूसरे पौधे को देखकर आओ।’
बाहर एक बहुत बड़ा पेड़ था। बेटे को यकीन नहीं हुआ कि वह पौधा इतने बड़े पेड़ में कैसे तब्दील हो गया, जबकि घरवाला तो इससे बहुत छोटा है। पिता ने बेटे को समझाया कि यह इतना बड़ा पेड़ इसलिए बन पाया, क्योंकि इसने हर मौसम और हजारों मुश्किलों का सामना किया है। अंदर वाले पौधे ने किसी चुनौती का सामना नहीं किया। न ही उसे धूप मिली, इसलिए वह बड़ा नहीं बन पाया। पिता ने कहा-‘बेटा याद रखना- इस पेड़ की तरह दुनिया में वही व्यक्ति महान बन सकता है, जिसने हजारों मुश्किलों का सामना किया हो। जो व्यक्ति घरवाले पेड़ की तरह जीवन भर सुरक्षित रहने की सोचेगा, वो कभी महान नहीं बन पाएगा।’
A child asks his father, “Dad, what does the word ‘great’ mean? I’ve read many times that this person was great, that he did this, that he did that. Please explain to me who great people are and how they become great.” The father thought of a way to explain the meaning of the word great to his son. He
said to his son, “Let’s get two plants. Plant one inside the house and the other outside.” After planting the plants, the father asked, “Son, which of these two plants do you think will grow and remain safe?” The son replied, “Father, is this even a question worth asking? The plant inside our house is safe and will grow to be large and gigantic. The plant outside is not safe at all. It will have to endure many weather conditions. An animal might even eat it.” The father remained calm and told his son, “I will answer this question when the time comes.” The son went away for four years to study. When he returned, he looked at the plant inside the house and said, “Dad, I told you nothing would happen to this plant.” The father smiled and said, “Son, go outside and see that other plant.”
There was a huge tree outside. The son couldn’t believe how that plant had grown into such a large tree, while the one at home was much smaller. The father explained to him that this tree had become so large because it had endured every season and thousands of difficulties. The plant inside faced no challenges. It didn’t receive any sunlight, so it couldn’t grow big. The father said, “Son, remember—like this tree, only a person who has faced thousands of difficulties can become great in the world. A person who, like the tree at home, thinks of staying safe all his life will never become great.”
