हिमालय की झीलों का आकार बढ़ा
नईदिल्ली, एजेंसी। हिमालयी क्षेत्र में ग्लेशियर झीलों और अन्य जलाशयों का पिछले 14 वर्षों में 9.24 प्रतिशत विस्तार हुआ है। केंद्रीय जल आयोग की रिपोर्ट में यह जानकारी सामने आई है।
ग्लेशियर झीलों और जलाशयों का कुल क्षेत्रफल 2011 में 5.30 लाख हेक्टेयर से बढ़कर 2025 में 5.79 लाख हेक्टेयर हो गया है। आयोग की मासिक निगरानी रिपोर्ट हिमालयी क्षेत्र के जलाशयों पर नजर रखती है। इसकी अगस्त की रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि सिकुड़ते ग्लेशियर और ग्लेशियर झीलों का विस्तार इस क्षेत्र में ग्लोबल वार्मिंग का स्पष्ट संकेत है। सीडब्ल्यूसी ने कहा कि गत 14 वर्ष में 1,435 ग्लेशियर झीलों और जलाशयों के जल विस्तार क्षेत्र में वृद्धि हुई है, जबकि 1,008 में कमी दर्ज की गई है।
भारत में ग्लेशियर झीलों में 22.56 प्रतिशत का विस्तारः
आयोग की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, भारत में ग्लेशियर झीलों का जल विस्तार क्षेत्र 2011 में 1,995 हेक्टेयर था जो बढ़कर 2025 में 2,445 हेक्टेयर हो गया। आयोग ने चेतावनी दी है कि ग्लेशियर झीलों के आकार में बढ़ोतरी होने से इनके अचानक फटने का खतरा है। इस दौरान अस्थिर हिमोढ़ बांधों के तट टूट जाते हैं जिससे अचानक बाढ़ आती है और निचले इलाके में व्यापक क्षति हो सकती है

The total area of glacier lakes and reservoirs is projected to increase from 5.30 lakh hectares in 2011 to 5.79 lakh hectares in 2025. The Commission’s monthly monitoring report monitors water bodies in the Himalayan region. Its August report stated that shrinking glaciers and the expansion of glacier lakes are a clear sign of global warming in the region. The CWC stated that over the past 14 years, the water area of 1,435 glacier lakes and reservoirs has increased, while a decrease has been recorded in 1,008.
Glacier lakes in India expand by 22.56 percent:
According to the Commission’s report, the water area of glacier lakes in India is projected to increase from 1,995 hectares in 2011 to 2,445 hectares in 2025. The Commission warns that the increase in the size of glacier lakes poses the risk of sudden outbursts. During this outburst, the banks of unstable moraine dams may breach, causing flash floods and widespread damage to downstream areas.
