अस्थि-विसर्जन

आज सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल की अस्थियां त्रिवेणी में विसर्जित कर दी जाएंगी। पावन गंगा ने महात्मा गांधी, पं. मदनमोहन मालवीय, पं. मोतीलाल नेहरू आदि कितने ही महापुरुषों के अवशेष अपने अंक में लिये हैं और अब सरदार पटेल के फूलों को भी वह अपनी गोद में ले लेगी। जिस प्रकार पुण्यसलिला भागीरथी गंगोत्तरी से एक छोटी जलधारा के रूप में प्रगट होकर बड़ी होती जाती है और भारत के एक विशाल क्षेत्र को हरा-भरा व समृद्ध बनाकर तथा उसमें पवित्रता व निर्मलता का संचार कर सागर में जा मिलती है, उसी प्रकार आनन्द के पास करमसद नामक गांव में वल्लभभाई नामक एक व्यक्ति ने एक साधारण किसान के घर जन्म लेकर अपना कार्यक्षेत्र बढ़ाया और अन्त में देश की स्वतंत्रता तथा उसके सुसंगठन के रूप में अपना यश विशाल क्षेत्र में विस्तीर्ण कर उस महासागर में निमज्जित हो गया है, जो सभी प्राणियों का विश्राम-आगार है।

हम यह न भूलें कि सरदार पटेल के केवल नश्वर शरीर का अन्त हुआ हैन कि उनके कार्यों तथा उनके यश का। बम्बई में जब श्री डाह्याभाई पटेल ने चिता में अग्निदान किया था, उस समय राजाजी ने कहा थाः ‘वल्लभभाई महान स्फूर्ति, साहस और आत्मशक्ति के अवतार थे। हम यह न सोचें कि वह नहीं रहे। हमारे परिचित वल्लभभाई के चले जाने पर भी सच्चे वल्लभभाई सदा जीवित रहेंगे।’ इसी प्रकार राष्ट्रपति ने कहा थाः ‘सरदार का देह अग्नि में भस्म हो रहा है, किंतु उनकी कीर्ति को कोई अग्नि भस्म नहीं कर सकती।’

आज देश ‘पटेल दिवस’ मना रहा है। कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष श्री पुरुषोत्तमदास टंडन की अपील के अनुसार आज कांग्रेसजन तथा अन्य लोग उपवास रखेंगे, प्रार्थना करेंगे तथा कताई में भाग लेंगे और स्मृति-सभाएं होंगी। यह सब ठीक है और अवश्य होना चाहिए, लेकिन इससे भी महत्वपूर्ण चीज हमारी भावना तथा हमारी शक्ति का उद्बोधन है। आज हमें चेताने के लिए सरदार पटेल की वह वाणी नहीं रही, जिससे हम सुपरिचित थे। किंतु यदि हम गंभीरता और शांति के साथ अपने अन्तस्तल में विचारें, तो हमें वह वाणी सुनाई देगी। तब हमें ज्ञात हो जायेगा कि सरदार पटेल की स्मृति को चिरस्थायी करने का उपाय अपने संकुचित स्वार्थों को त्याग कर देशहित के लिए एकता से कार्य करना है।

Today, the ashes of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel will be immersed in the Triveni Sangam. The sacred Ganges has received the remains of many great men, including Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, Pandit Motilal Nehru, and now it will embrace the ashes of Sardar Patel. Just as the holy Bhagirathi Ganges emerges as a small stream from Gangotri, grows larger, and after making a vast area of ​​India green and prosperous and infusing it with purity and sanctity, finally merges into the ocean, similarly, a man named Vallabhbhai, born in a simple farmer’s home in the village of Karamsad near Anand, expanded his sphere of work and ultimately spread his fame across a vast area through the independence and organization of the country, before finally merging into that great ocean which is the resting place of all beings.

Let us not forget that only Sardar Patel’s mortal body has perished, not his deeds or his glory. When Shri Dahyabhai Patel lit the funeral pyre in Bombay, Rajaji said: “Vallabhbhai was an embodiment of great energy, courage, and inner strength. Let us not think that he is no more. Even though the Vallabhbhai we knew is gone, the true Vallabhbhai will always live on.” Similarly, the President said: “The Sardar’s body is being consumed by fire, but no fire can consume his glory.”

Today, the country is observing ‘Patel Day’. According to the appeal of the Congress President, Shri Purushottamdas Tandon, Congressmen and others will observe a fast, offer prayers, participate in spinning, and hold memorial meetings. All this is good and necessary, but even more important is the awakening of our feelings and our strength. Today, we no longer have the familiar voice of Sardar Patel to guide us. But if we reflect deeply and calmly within ourselves, we will hear that voice. Then we will understand that the way to immortalize Sardar Patel’s memory is to set aside our narrow self-interests and work together for the good of the nation.
