She was born on 19 November 1835 and died on 17 june 1858 during a war against British rule in India.
She has gone down in Indian history as a renowned figure, the fighter who began the Indian revolt against British Empire.
Her original name was Manikarnika (Nick name – Manu). She lost her mother when she was just 4 years old. She got married at the age of 14 with Gangadhar Rao (King of Jhansi state).
She gave birth to a son but he died at the age of four months and after that they adopted Damodar Rao.
After 2 years the king died. Now the whole responsibility came on Laxhmibai's shoulder. In march 1954 the British Empire started forcing the queen to leave the palace but she denied and that initiated a big fight between the Jhansi and British Empire.
On 18th June 1958, during the fight for Gwalior she died.
British captured Gwalior after three days.
She lived for only 22 years but she set a great example of self respect and heroism.
Rani LaksmiBai became a national hero and her name was written in the golden book for her bravery. This is also a fact that when Indian army created its first female unit, they named that unit on the name of Laksmi Bai.
