बंधना नहीं, मुक्त होना
जो भी चीज हमारे जीवन से संबंध रखती है, उसकी जिम्मेदारी हम अपने हाथों में ले लेते हैं और जब किसी चोज को अपने हाथों में नहीं लेना चाहते, तो ईश्वरीय इच्छा या नियति की बातें करने लगते हैं। इस समय भी आप अपने जीवन में चुनाव अचेतन तरीके से कर रहे हैं। इसे ही कर्म कहते हैं। आप अपनी नियति पूरी लापरवाही, पूरी बेखबरी में रच रहे हैं। आप जो भी अचेतन होकर कर रहे हैं, अगर उसे सचेतन तरीके से करने लगें, तो जमीन-आसमान का फर्क आ जाएगा। यही फर्क अज्ञानता और आत्मज्ञान के बीच होता है।
अपना भाग्य अपने हाथों में लेने का मतलब यह नहीं है कि सब कुछ आपके मन-मुताबिक होने लगेगा। बाहरी दुनिया कभी सौ फीसदी आपके मुताबिक नहीं चलेगी, क्योंकि उसमें तमाम दूसरे पहलू शामिल होते हैं। बाहरी दुनिया को अपने मुताबिक चलाने की चाहत का मतलब है- निरंकुश होना। भाग्य बनाने का मतलब यह नहीं है कि दुनिया की हर परिस्थिति आपके काबू में हो। इसका मतलब वस इतना है कि खुद को इस तरह का बनाएं कि आपके आस-पास चाहे कैसी भी घटना या परिस्थिति क्यों नहो, आप उनके बोझ तले चकनाचूर होने के बजाय उनसे पार पाना सीख जाएं। असल में, इसका मतलब अपनी परम प्रकृति को प्राप्त करने की ओर बढ़ना है।
तो उन सितारों, ग्रहों का क्या, क्या वे हमारी किस्मत तय नहीं करते ? अगर आपकी किस्मत उन ग्रहों और सितारों द्वारा तय होती, तो इसका मतलब होता कि आप अपनी इच्छा से न जी सकते हैं और न ही मर सकते हैं। आप अपने जीवन के बारे में कुछ भी सकारात्मक या नकारात्मक तरीके से तय नहीं कर सकते, क्योंकि आप सब कुछ अपनी कुंडली के चश्मे से देख रहे होते हैं!
क्या निर्जीव चीजों को इंसान की दिशा और भाग्य तय करना चाहिए या इसका उल्टा होना चाहिए? अगर आप खुद में अच्छी तरह से स्थित हैं, तो चाहे आपके ग्रह आपको किसी भी दिशा में मोड़ना चाहें, आप उसी दिशा में जाएंगे, जहां आप जाना चाहते हैं। अगर लोगों को’ दूसरे ग्रहों की चिंता कम और धरती माता की ज्यादा होती, तो कम से कम हम थोड़ा बेहतर जीवन जी सकते थे !
इसलिए आप जिसे ‘भाग्य’ कहते हैं, वह ऐसी चीज है, जिसे आपने खुद के लिए अचेतन तरीके से बनाया है। कर्म एक प्रक्रिया है; भाग्य उसका परिणाम है। कर्म का शाब्दिक अर्थ है कार्य। कार्य तमाम तरह के होते हैं-शारीरिक, मानसिक/भावनात्मक और ऊर्जा से किए गए कार्य। अगर इन कार्यों की अभिव्यक्ति बाहर की ओर होती है, तो यह कर्म है। शरीर, मनोभावना और ऊर्जा से परे, अगर कार्य भीतर की ओर किया जाता है, तो उसे “क्रिया’ कहते हैं। याद रखिए, कर्म आपको बांधने की प्रक्रिया है और क्रिया आपको मुक्त करने की प्रक्रिया।
कार्यों की अभिव्यक्ति बाहर की ओर होती है, तो यह ‘कर्म’ है। अगर कार्य भीतर की ओर किया जाता है, तो उसे ‘क्रिया’ कहते हैं। कर्म आपको बांधने की प्रक्रिया है और क्रिया मुक्त करने की।

We take responsibility for everything that concerns our lives, and when we don’t want to take control, we start talking about divine will or destiny. Even at this point, you are making choices in your life unconsciously. This is called karma. You are creating your destiny in complete carelessness and complete ignorance. If you were to consciously do what you are doing unconsciously, it would make a world of difference. This is the difference between ignorance and enlightenment.
Taking your destiny into your own hands doesn’t mean that everything will happen according to your wishes. The outside world will never work 100% according to you, because it involves many other factors. Wanting to control the outside world means being autocratic. Creating your destiny doesn’t mean that you have control over every situation in the world. It simply means shaping yourself so that, no matter what events or circumstances occur around you, you learn to overcome them instead of crumbling under their weight. Essentially, it means moving towards attaining your ultimate nature.
So what about those stars and planets? Don’t they determine our fate? If your fate were determined by those planets and stars, it would mean you couldn’t live or die as you wish. You couldn’t decide anything about your life, positive or negative, because you see everything through the lens of your horoscope!
Should inanimate objects determine a person’s direction and destiny, or should it be the other way around? If you are well-positioned within yourself, no matter which direction your planets want to turn you, you will go in the direction you want to go. If people cared less about other planets and more about Mother Earth, we could at least live a little better!
Therefore, what you call “fate” is something you have unconsciously created for yourself. Karma is a process; fate is its result. Karma literally means action. Actions come in all forms—physical, mental/emotional, and energetic. If these actions manifest outward, it is karma. If the action is done inward, beyond the body, emotions, and energy, it is called “kriya.” Remember, karma is a process of binding you, and kriya is a process of liberating you.
