Society Itself Should Identify the Deserving Recipients

सुपात्रों की पहचान स्वयं समाज करे

गणतंत्र दिवस के मौके पर एक बार फिर पद्म पुरस्कारों की घोषणा की गई। यद्यपि सरकार के सत्प्रयासों से योग्य पात्रों के चयन में पारदर्शिता आई है, तथापि सरकार के साथ-साथ समाज की भी जिम्मेदारी बनती है कि ये पुरस्कार सुपात्रों के मस्तक की ही मणि बनें। पिछले कुछ वर्षों के नाम आम आदमी को प्रेरित, आह्लादित करते हैं, जन-सामान्य को ऐसे व्यक्तियों की खोज, मूल्यांकन और नामांकन कराने में अग्रणी भूमिका निभानी चाहिए। जो लोग किसी दिखावे के लिए, आडंबरवश या निहित स्वार्थ के कारण नहीं, बल्कि आत्मानंद या परमार्थवश समाज-कल्याण के कार्यों में जुटे हैं, उन्हें ही ये सम्मान मिलने चाहिए। ऐसे लोग इन कार्यों का बीड़ा किसी जुनून, किसी घटना से प्रेरित होकर उठा लेते हैं व उन्हें इस बात का बिल्कुल गुमां नहीं होता कि उन्होंने समाज या राष्ट्रहित में कितना बड़ा योगदान दे दिया है। आज सोशल मीडिया के प्रचार-प्रसार के बाद हालांकि स्व-प्रदर्शन की होड़ सी लग गई है, मगर ऐसे व्यक्तियों की भी कमी नहीं, जो प्रचार से दूर अपनी सेवा में तन्मयता से लगे हैं। ऐसे दशरथ मांझियों और वृक्ष-माताओं खोजने का दायित्व हमारा है। ये हमारे सच्चे को प्रेरणा-स्रोत हैं, आदर्श हैं। समाज को इन ‘गरूड़ों’ को पद्म पुरस्कारों वाले नीलगगन तक पहुंचाने में सहायता चाहिए, ताकि कोई ‘कपोत’ इन्हें इस सम्मान से वंचित न कर दे।

हमारे देश को आजाद कराने के लिए बहुत सारे देशभक्तों ने अपना सब कुछ, यहां तक कि अपनी जान भी हंसते-हंसते कुर्बान कर दी थी। इसलिए हमें अपनी राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा की अब ऐसी मजबूत नींव रखनी चाहिए कि हमारी स्वतंत्रता के लिए कभी कोई खतरा न पैदा हो सके।

नेताजी सुभाषचंद्र बोस ने अंग्रेजों के दांत खट्टे करने के लिए ‘तुम मुझे खून दो, मैं तुम्हें आजादी दूंगा’ की जैसी ललकार दी थी; सरदार भगत सिंह, चंद्रशेखर आजाद और अन्य नौजवान क्रांतिकारियों ने अपनी खेलने-कूदने की उम्र में जिस तरह अपने अंदर देशभक्ति की भावना भरी, क्या आज ऐसा हो रहा है? नहीं। अगर ऐसा होता, तो आजादी के इतने वर्षों बाद हमारा देश इतनी सारी समस्याओं से घिरा न होता, देश के राजनीतिक, आर्थिक व सामाजिक क्षेत्र में इतने दोष न आए होते, अमीरी-गरीबी की खाई यूं न बढ़ती, युवा वर्ग नशे की राह पर न चलता। यह बेहद अफसोस और शर्म की बात है कि जिन्हें आजादी की पकी-पकाई खीर मिली है, चाहे वे राजनेता हों या फिर आम जनता, वे संविधान बनाने वालों का उपहास उड़ाते हैं, उनमें कमियां निकालने में जुटे रहते हैं।

On Republic Day, the Padma Awards were announced once again. Although the government’s sincere efforts have brought transparency to the selection of deserving candidates, it is the responsibility of both the government and society to ensure that these awards truly adorn the brows of worthy individuals. The names of the recipients in the past few years have inspired and delighted the common man. The general public should play a leading role in identifying, evaluating, and nominating such individuals. These honors should be bestowed only upon those who are engaged in social welfare work not for show, ostentation, or vested interests, but out of inner joy or altruism. Such people undertake these tasks driven by passion or inspired by an event, and they are completely unaware of the magnitude of their contribution to society or the nation. Although the proliferation of social media has led to a kind of competition for self-promotion, there is no shortage of individuals who are diligently engaged in service away from the limelight. It is our responsibility to find such Dashrath Manjhis and “Tree Mothers.” They are our true sources of inspiration and role models. Society needs to help these “eagles” reach the lofty heights of the Padma Awards, so that no “pigeon” deprives them of this honor.

Many patriots sacrificed everything, even their lives, for the freedom of our country. Therefore, we must now lay such a strong foundation for our national security that our freedom is never threatened again.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose challenged the British with the slogan, “Give me blood, and I shall give you freedom”; Sardar Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, and other young revolutionaries instilled in themselves a spirit of patriotism at an age when they should have been playing and enjoying themselves. Is this happening today? No. If that were the case, our country would not be plagued by so many problems after so many years of independence, there would not be so many flaws in the political, economic, and social spheres of the country, the gap between rich and poor would not be widening in this manner, and the youth would not be falling into the trap of drug addiction. It is deeply regrettable and shameful that those who have inherited the fruits of independence, whether politicians or ordinary citizens, mock the framers of the Constitution and are constantly busy finding fault with them.
