कल मिक्षा ले जाना
याद आती आती है मुझे एक छोटी सी घटना। युधिष्ठिर अज्ञातवास में छिपे हुए हैं, वेशभूषा बदल रखी है, किसी को पता नहीं कि वह कौन हैं? युधिष्ठिर कुटी के सामने बैठे हैं। भीम एक कोने में बैठे कुछ सोच रहे हैं। एक भिखारी आता है और युधिष्ठिर से भीख मांगता है। युधिष्ठिर ने उससे कहा, तुम कल आ जाना। भीम उछलकर खड़े हो गए और भीतर कुटी की तरफ दौड़े। युधिष्ठिर ने पूछा, तुझे क्या हो रहा है?
भीम ने कहा कि मैं सबको बताने जा रहा हूं कि मेरे भ्राताश्री ने समय पर विजय पा ली। आपने भिक्षुक से कहा कि कल आ जाना। इससे एक बात पक्की है कि आप सुनिश्चित हैं कि कल आएगा। इसलिए मैं जरा गांव भर में खबर कर आऊं कि मेरे भैया ने समय पर विजय पा ली है। युधिष्ठिर भागते हुए उस भिखारी के पास पहुंचे, उसे रोका और कहा, तू आज ही ले जा, क्योंकि कल का सच कहां भरोसा ?
कल के लिए क्या उपाय है कि हम कुछ तय कर सकें? जो टालता है, वह अपने को धोखा देता है। जो कल पर छोड़ता है, वह किसी और से नहीं, अपने से ही बेईमानी कर रहा है। इसलिए अगर कल आपके हाथ में हो, तो स्थगित करना और कल अगर हाथ में न हो, तो स्थगित मत करना। अगर स्थगित ही करना हो, तो कल के लिए बुराई को स्थगित करना, क्योंकि कल कभी नहीं आता। क्रोध आए, तो कहना कि कल करेंगे। चोरी करनी हो, तो कहना कि कल करेंगे। फिर तुमसे पाप हो ही नहीं सकेंगे, क्योंकि कल कभी नहीं आता। जो कुछ भी ठीक करना हो, शुभ करना हो, वह अभी कर लेना। अगर उसे कल पर टाला, तो यह भी नहीं हो सकेगा।
जिस आदमी ने कल में अपने स्वर्ग को देखा है, उसका आज नर्क होगा, इतना पक्का है, क्योंकि कल तो आएगा नहीं। जब भी कल आएगा, आज होकर आएगा। अगर तुमने यह गलत आदत सीख ली कि तुम कल में ही नजर लगाए रहते हो, तो तुम आज को सदा गंवाते जाओगे। जब भी आएगा आज आएगा; जो भी आएगा, आज की तरह आएगा। तुम्हारी आंखें अगर कल पर लगी रहेंगी, तो तुम जो मिला था, उसे कभी न भोग पाओगे, जो तुम्हारे हाथ में रखा है, उसे देख ही नहीं पाओगे; जो नृत्य-गीत चल ही रहा था, उसमें सम्मिलित ही न हो पाओगे।
अस्तित्व वर्तमान है- उतरो, छलांग लो। तैयारी तो सदा से पूरी है, सिर्फ तुम्हारी प्रतीक्षा है। तुम नाचो ! तुम यह मत कहो कि कल नाचेंगे। तुम यह मत कहो कि आंगन ही टेढ़ा है, नाचें कैसे? जिसे नाचना आता है, वह टेढ़े आंगन में भी नाच लेता है। जिसे नाचना नहीं आता, आंगन कितना ही सीधा, चौकोर हो जाए, तव भी नाच न पाएगा।
जिस आदमी ने कल में अपने स्वर्ग को देखा है, यह पक्का है कि उसका आज नर्क होगा, क्योंकि कल तो आएगा ही नहीं। जब भी कल आएगा, वह आज बनकर आएगा।
I remember a small incident. Yudhishthira is hiding in hiding, disguised, and no one knows who he is. Yudhishthira is sitting in front of his hut. Bhima is sitting in a corner, thinking. A beggar comes and begs for alms. Yudhishthira tells him, “Come tomorrow.” Bhima jumps up and runs inside the hut. Yudhishthira asks, “What’s going on?”
Bhima said, “I’m going to tell everyone that my brother has conquered time. You told the beggar to come tomorrow. This confirms one thing: you’re sure tomorrow will come. So, let me go and announce to the whole village that my brother has conquered time.” Yudhishthira ran to the beggar, stopped him, and said, “Take alms today, because who can trust tomorrow?”
What solution is there for tomorrow so that we can decide? Those who procrastinate are deceiving themselves. Those who leave things to tomorrow are not being dishonest to anyone else, but to themselves. Therefore, if tomorrow is in your hands, postpone it. If tomorrow is not in your hands, then don’t postpone it. If you must postpone, then postpone evil for tomorrow, because tomorrow never comes. If anger arises, say, “I will do it tomorrow.” If you want to steal, say, “I will do it tomorrow.” Then you will not be able to commit any sin, because tomorrow never comes. Whatever you want to correct, whatever you want to do for good, do it now. If you postpone it to tomorrow, even that will not happen.
The person who sees his heaven in tomorrow will definitely have hell today, because tomorrow will never come. Whenever tomorrow comes, it will come as today. If you learn this bad habit of fixating on tomorrow, you will always lose today. Whenever it comes, it will come today; whatever comes, it will come like today. If your eyes remain fixed on tomorrow, you will never be able to enjoy what you have received, you will not be able to see what is in your hands; you will not be able to join in the dance and song that is already going on.
Existence is present – descend, take the leap. The preparations have always been complete, just waiting for you. Dance! Don’t say that you will dance tomorrow. Don’t say that the courtyard is crooked, how can we dance? One who knows how to dance can dance even in a crooked courtyard. One who does not know how to dance will not be able to dance even if the courtyard is straight and square.
The person who has seen his heaven in tomorrow is sure that his today will be hell, because tomorrow will never come. Whenever tomorrow comes, it will come as today.
