भविष्य में आमूल परिवर्तन चाहने वाला या उस परिवर्तन को अंतिम लक्ष्य मानने वाला मन कभी सत्य को नहीं पा सकता, क्योंकि सत्य क्षण-प्रतिक्षण पाया जाता है, हर पल नए सिरे से पाया जाता है; संचित अनुभव से कोई खोज संभव नहीं है। यदि आप पुराने के बोझ से दबे हैं, तो नए का अन्वेषण कैसे कर सकते हैं? उस बोझ के हटने पर ही आप नए को खोज पाते हैं।

नवीन को, शाश्वत को वर्तमान में प्रतिक्षण खोज पाने के लिए यह आवश्यक है कि व्यक्ति का मन असाधारण रूप से सतर्क हो। एक ऐसा मन, जो किसी परिणाम की खोज नहीं कर रहा, कुछ भी बनने का प्रयत्न नहीं कर रहा। कुछ बन जाने में लगा हुआ मन परितोष के उल्लास को कभी नहीं जान पाता। आत्ममुग्ध संतुष्टि नहीं, किसी फल की प्राप्ति से होने वाला परितोष नहीं, बल्कि ऐसा परितोष, जो तभी आता है, जब मन ‘जो है’ के सत्य और ‘जो है’ के मिथ्यात्व, दोनों को देख लेता है। इस सत्य का बोध क्षण-प्रतिक्षण होता है। इसे शब्दों में ढालने से बाधित हो जाता है।

आमूल परिवर्तन कोई लक्ष्य, कोई परिणाम नहीं है। परिवर्तन परिणाम नहीं है। परिणाम में अवशेष निहित है, कारण और कार्य निहित हैं। जहां कारण है, वहां कार्य का, प्रभाव का होना अनिवार्य है। वह प्रभाव बदलने की आपकी कामना का परिणाम भर होता है। जब आप रूपांतरित होने की कामना करते हैं, तब आप कुछ बनने की भाषा में सोच रहे होते हैं, और जो कुछ बनने की प्रक्रिया में है, वह उसे नहीं जान सकता, जो विद्यमान है। सत्य है क्षण-प्रतिक्षण होना। प्रसन्नता, सुख-शांति अस्तित्व की, होने की वह अवस्था है, जो कालातीत है। समय से परे की इस अवस्था का आगमन तभी होता है, जब गहन असंतुष्टि होती है- वह असंतुष्टि नहीं, जिसने पलायन करने का कोई तरीका, कोई रास्ता खोज रखा हो, अपितु ऐसी असंतुष्टि, जिससे कोई निकास, कोई पलायन है ही नहीं; जिसमें किसी तृप्ति-तुष्टि की तलाश रही ही नहीं। परम असंतुष्टि की उस स्थिति में ही यथार्थ अभिव्यक्त होता है। वह यथार्थ क्रय-विक्रय के लिए नहीं है, दोहराने के लिए नहीं है। उसे पुस्तकों में बांधा नहीं जा सकता। उसे क्षण-प्रतिक्षण पाना होता है, प्रेम सत्य से मिन्न नहीं है। प्रेम वह अवस्था है, जिसमें विचार की प्रक्रिया का समय के तौर पर पूर्णतया अवसान हो गया है। जहां प्रेम होता है, आधारभूत परिवर्तन हो जाता है।

मुस्कराहट में, आंसू में, सूखे पत्ते में, आवारा विचारों में, प्रेम की परिपूर्णता में।

प्रेम सत्य से भिन्न नहीं है। प्रेम वह अवस्था है, जिसमें विचार की प्रक्रिया का समय के तौर पर पूर्णतया अवसान हो गया है। जहां प्रेम होता है, आधारभूत परिवर्तन हो जाता है। प्रेम के अभाव में क्रांति का कोई अर्थ नहीं है, क्योंकि तब क्रांति का अर्थ केवल विनाश और क्षय होगा। जहां प्रेम है, वहीं क्रांति है, क्योंकि प्रेम है क्षण-क्षण होने वाला रूपांतरण, आमूल परिवर्तन।

A mind that desires radical change in the future or considers that change as its ultimate goal can never find truth, because truth is discovered moment by moment, discovered anew every moment; no discovery is possible through accumulated experience. If you are burdened by the old, how can you explore the new? Only when that burden is lifted can you discover the new.

To discover the new, the eternal, in the present moment by moment requires that one’s mind be exceptionally alert. A mind that is not seeking any result, not striving to become anything. A mind preoccupied with becoming something never knows the joy of fulfillment. Not self-indulgent satisfaction, not the satisfaction that comes from achieving some result, but the fulfillment that comes only when the mind sees both the truth of what is and the falsity of what is. This truth is realized moment by moment. Putting it into words hinders it.

Radical change is not a goal, not an outcome. Change is not a result. The result contains a residue, a cause and an effect. Where there is a cause, there must be an effect, an effect. That effect is merely the result of your desire to change. When you desire to transform, you are thinking in terms of becoming, and that which is in the process of becoming cannot know that which exists. Truth is moment-to-moment being. Happiness, joy, and peace are a state of existence, a state of being that is timeless. This state beyond time is reached only when there is profound dissatisfaction—not a dissatisfaction that has found a way, a path, to escape, but a dissatisfaction from which there is no escape, no escape; in which there is no longer any search for satisfaction. It is in that state of ultimate dissatisfaction that reality manifests. That reality is not for sale or purchase, not for repetition. It cannot be confined to books. It has to be attained moment by moment. Love is in no way different from truth. Love is that state in which the process of thought has completely ceased as time. Where love exists, fundamental change occurs.

In a smile, in a tear, in a withered leaf, in stray thoughts, in the fullness of love.
