A New Era in Nepal

नेपाल में नया युग

नेपाल में नये युग के उदय के लिए भूमि पूरी तरह से तैयार हो चुकी है। एक सौ एक दिन भारत सरकार के मेहमान रहकर राजा त्रिभुवन काठमांडू वापस लौट गये हैं और वहां वह शीघ्र ही नये सुधारों तथा आंतरिक सरकार के निर्माण की घोषणा कर देंगे। नये मंत्रिमंडल के सदस्यों की सूची को वह अपनी स्वीकृति प्रदान कर चुके हैं और वह दिन भी अब दूर नहीं, जब किसी शुभ समय में नेपाल की जनता लोकतंत्री युग में पांव रखेगी।

कहना न होगा कि नेपाल हमारा पड़ोसी ही नहीं, हमारे अपने कुटुम्ब के सदस्य के समान है। दोनों देशों के नाभिनाल संबंधों को देखते हुए भारत नेपाल की किसी भी राजनीतिक हलचल की उपेक्षा नहीं कर सकता था। स्वाभाविक ही था कि नेहरूजी ने वहां की राजनीतिक गुत्थी को सुलझाने में इतनी तत्परता प्रदर्शित की और आज, जब वहां के आकाश से कटुता के मेघ फट चुके हैं, हमें आशा है कि भारत और नेपाल के संबंध और भी दृढ़तर होंगे और दोनों देश लोकतंत्रात्मक दिशा में प्रगति कर अपनी जनता तथा विश्व की शांति और समृद्धि में योग देंगे।

कोरियाई युद्ध : कोरिया के मोर्चों पर दोनों पक्षों में आक्रमण और प्रत्याक्रमण जारी है। गत पखवाड़े में संयुक्त राष्ट्रीय सेनाओं की प्रगति जिस प्रकार होती रही, उससे उन्हें आशा हो गई थी कि वे शीघ्र ही फिर 38वें अक्षांश पर पहुंच जायेंगे। कुछ दक्षिण कोरियाई दल तो सिओल तक भी जा पहुंचे। और साम्यवादियों ने प्रतिरोध के लिए विशेष उत्सुकता नहीं दिखाई। किन्तु हाल में ही इस सप्ताह साम्यवादियों ने जिस वेग से प्रत्याक्रमण किया, उससे संयुक्त राष्ट्रीय सेनाओं की 38वें अक्षांश पर पहुंचने की आशा फिलहाल धूल में मिल गई है। चीनी सेनाएं चार दिन में ही 35 मील बढ़ गईं। यही नहीं, वे ऐसे स्थान पर भी पहुंच चुकी हैं, जहां से केन्द्रीय मोचों को मदद पहुंचाने में बाधा डाल सकती हैं।

इधर संयुक्त राष्ट्रीय झंडा-तले कोरिया में युद्ध करने वाले पश्चिमी राष्ट्रों में फिर यह चर्चा चल पड़ी है कि यदि उसकी सेनाएं 38वें अक्षांश पर पहुंचने में सफल हो जायें, तो क्या वे उससे आगे भी बढ़ेंगी। ब्रिटेन यह चाहता है कि इस दिशा में कोई निर्णायक कदम उठाने से पहले सब भागीदारों में फैसला हो जाये।

The ground is ripe for the dawn of a new era in Nepal. King Tribhuvan has returned to Kathmandu after being a guest of the Indian government for 101 days, and will soon announce new reforms and the formation of an internal government. He has approved the list of members of the new cabinet, and the day is not far off when, at some auspicious time, the people of Nepal will enter the democratic era.

Nepal, it goes without saying, is not only our neighbor but also like a member of our own family. Given the umbilical ties between the two countries, India could not ignore any political developments in Nepal. It was natural that Nehruji displayed such urgency in resolving the political entanglement there. And today, when the clouds of bitterness have dissipated from the skies there, we hope that relations between India and Nepal will strengthen even further, and both countries will progress in a democratic direction, contributing to the peace and prosperity of their people and the world.

Korean War: Offensives and counteroffensives continue on both sides of the Korean front. The progress of the United Nations forces over the past fortnight had given them hope that they would soon reach the 38th parallel. Some South Korean troops even reached Seoul. The Communists showed little desire to resist. However, the rapidity of the Communist counteroffensive this week has dashed the hopes of the United Nations forces reaching the 38th parallel. Chinese forces advanced 35 miles in just four days. Furthermore, they have reached a point from where they can obstruct the supply of reinforcements to the central fronts.

Meanwhile, among the Western nations fighting in Korea under the United Nations flag, discussions have again begun regarding whether their forces, if they succeed in reaching the 38th parallel, will advance beyond that. Britain wants all the partners to agree before taking any decisive steps in this direction.
