सत्य का साथ होना ही सत्संग
सत्संग का मतलब है- सत्य का गहरा सान्निध्य। इसका अर्थ है, सत्य के पास होना। उन के सद्गुरु अनुशासन में रहना, जो सत्य से एकात्म है। बस सद्गुरु के निकट बने रहना, खुले हुए, ग्रहणशील और प्रतीक्षारत।
यदि साधक की यह प्रतीक्षा गहरी और सघन हो जाती है, तब एक गहन आत्ममिलन घटित होता है। इसके लिए जरूरी नहीं है कि सदा ही गुरु से शारीरिक निकटता हो।
दरअसल गुरु के बताए गए अनुशासनों में उनकी चेतना तरंगित होती है। इन्हें स्वीकारने और अपनाने का अर्थ है- उनकी चेतना को स्वीकारना और अपनाना। ऐसा घटित होते ही, शिष्यत्व के प्रकट होते ही साधक को एक अलग ही भाषा समझ में आने लगती है। तब शारीरिक निकटता जरूरी नहीं है, क्योंकि नई भाषा है ही गैर शारीरिक। तब दूरी से कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता। शिष्य एवं गुरु का संपर्क बना रहता है। केवल स्थान की दूरी ही नहीं, समय से भी कोई अंतर नहीं पड़ता। गुरु का शरीर न रहे, लेकिन शिष्य का प्रेम, श्रद्धा एवं आस्था स्थान और समय दोनों को मिटा देती है। अनुशासन देने वाला गुरु और प्राणपण से गुरु के अनुशासन को मानने वाला शिष्य दोनों एकदम पास-पास होते हैं। उनमें सदा ही सत्संग चलता रहता है। यह सत्संग सत्य का होता है।
‘अथ योगानुशासनम्’ के सूत्र का सार यही है- शिष्यत्व का जन्म और सद्गुरु की प्राप्ति। शिष्यत्व और सद्गुरु, जब मिलते हैं- तभी योग साधना का प्रारंभहोता है। अंतर्यात्रा का विज्ञान जन्म लेता है। अस्तित्व में अनूठे प्रयोग शुरू होते हैं।
संपर्क तब भी बना रहता है। भौतिक शरीर को त्यागने के बावजूद भी गुरु-शिष्य बड़े मजे से मिलते रहते हैं। बिना किसी बाधा या व्यवधान के उनमें भावों एवं विचारों का आदान-प्रदान चलता रहता है।
यह चमत्कार है- योग के अनुशासन का। गुरु द्वारा दिए गए व्रतबंध को श्रद्धापूर्वक स्वीकारने से शिष्य के जीवन
में अनेक चमत्कार घटते हैं। कोई गुरु कभी भी अपने शिष्य से दूर नहीं होता। वह कभी मरता नहीं उनके लिए, जो श्रद्धा सहित उसके अनुशासन को स्वीकार कर सकते हैं। वह मदद करता रहता है। वह हमेशा यहां ही होता है- शिष्य के पास। उसका सच्चा वासस्थान तो अपने शिष्य का हृदय होता है।
महर्षि पतंजलि के इस प्रथम सूत्र को जो नहीं समझ पाते, योग साधना का प्रवेश द्वार उनके लिए कभी भी नहीं खुलता।’ अथ’ शब्द की समझ ने और योग अनुशासन की स्वीकार्यता ने ही उन्हें महायोगी बनाया। अध्यात्म एक उच्चस्तरीय विज्ञान है। इसके प्रयोगों के लिए हमें एक सच्चे वैज्ञानिक की भांति सत्यान्वेषी बनना होगा। अध्यात्म की भाषा में शिष्यत्व ही इसका पर्याय और कसौटी है।
यदि हमें विवेक पथ का अनुशीलन करके भी सत्य योग की अनुभूति नहीं हो सकी है, तो इसका एकमात्र कारण यह है कि हमारी पात्रता अभी परिपक्व नहीं है, इसे परिपक्व करने के प्रयास में प्राणपण से जुटना होगा।

Satsang means deep proximity to truth. It means being close to the truth. Living under the discipline of the Sadguru, who is one with truth. Simply remaining close to the Sadguru, open, receptive, and waiting.
If the seeker’s waiting becomes deep and intense, then a profound self-union occurs. This does not always require physical proximity to the Guru.
In fact, the Guru’s consciousness resonates with the disciplines prescribed by him. Accepting and adopting them means accepting and adopting his consciousness. As soon as this happens, as discipleship manifests, the seeker begins to understand a different language. Then physical proximity is no longer necessary, because the new language is non-physical. Distance then makes no difference. The connection between disciple and Guru remains. Not only the distance of place, but also time makes no difference. The Guru may not be physically present, but the disciple’s love, devotion, and faith erase both space and time. The guru who imparts discipline and the disciple who wholeheartedly follows the guru’s discipline are both in close proximity. There is always a constant satsang between them. This satsang is the true satsang.
The essence of the sutra “Atha Yoganushasanam” is this: the birth of discipleship and the attainment of a true guru. When discipleship and a true guru meet, only then does yoga practice begin. The science of inner journey is born. Unique experiments in existence begin.
The connection remains even then. Even after leaving the physical body, the guru and disciple continue to meet with great joy. The exchange of feelings and thoughts continues without any hindrance or interruption.
This is the miracle of the discipline of yoga. By accepting the vows given by the guru with devotion, many miracles occur in the disciple’s life.
A guru is never separated from his disciple. He never dies; for those who can accept his discipline with faith, he continues to help. He is always here—with the disciple. His true abode is the disciple’s heart.
Those who fail to understand this first sutra of Maharishi Patanjali never find the door to yoga practice open for them. Understanding the word “Atha” and accepting the discipline of yoga made him a great yogi. Spirituality is a high-level science. To practice it, we must become truth-seekers like a true scientist. In the language of spirituality, discipleship is its synonym and test.
If, despite pursuing the path of discrimination, we have not yet attained the realization of true yoga, the only reason is that our worthiness is not yet ripe. We must wholeheartedly strive to mature it.
