पूर्व क्रिकेटर संजय मांजरेकर ने जो कहा, वह सही नहीं है। उनका कहना था कि ‘हाथ नहीं मिलाना बेहद बेवकूफी भरी बात है, जो भारत ने शुरू की है। यह ठीक नहीं है। या तो खेल भावना के साथ ठीक से खेलो या बिल्कुल मत खेलो।’ निस्संदेह, संजय मांजरेकर की अपनी राय हो सकती है, लेकिन उनको यह समझना चाहिए कि आखिर क्यों कोई भारतीय खिलाड़ी पाकिस्तानी खिलाड़ी से हाथ नहीं मिलाना चाहता ? अभी ज्यादा दिन नहीं हुए हैं, जब मैदान पर पाकिस्तानी खिलाड़ियों ने’ ऑपरेशन सिंदूर’ का मजाक उड़ाते हुए भंगिमाएं जाहिर की थीं। जब उनके खिलाड़ियों में इतना ‘जहर’ भरा हुआ है, तो भला हम क्यों उनके साथ हाथ मिलाएं। यहां मुझे हरभजन सिंह की बात सही लगती है, जिन्होंने कहा है कि यह पूरी तरह खिलाड़ियों की इच्छा पर निर्भर है कि वे हाथ मिलाएं या नहीं। किसी किताब में नहीं लिखा है कि मैच के बाद हाथ मिलाना या गले मिलना जरूरी है। साफ है, हम क्रिकेट को क्रिकेट की तरह ही देख रहे हैं, लेकिन लगता है कि हाथ न मिलाने को लेकर टीम इंडिया को ‘टारगेट’ करने वाले लोग इस खेल में ‘कूटनीति’ बोज ढूंढ़ रहे हैं और इस खेल को पाकिस्तान से संबंध सुधारने का जरूरी माध्यम मान रहे हैं। जो लोग यह तर्क देते हैं कि क्रिकेट को खेल भावना के साथ खेला जाना चाहिए, उनको यह बात समझ लेनी चाहिए कि राष्ट्रभक्ति की भावना हर भावना से ऊपर होती है। हमारे लिए राष्ट्र प्रथम है, बाकी सब बाद की बातें हैं, क्रिकेट भी। अगर पाकिस्तान हमारे देश के प्रति दुर्भावना नहीं पालता, या हमारे देश में आतंकवाद को बढ़ावा नहीं देता, तो संभव है कि हमारे खिलाड़ी न सिर्फ द्विपक्षीय टूनर्मिट खेलते, बल्कि पाकिस्तान भी जाते, लेकिन सच्चाई तो कुछ और ही है। पाकिस्तान की सरकार, वहां के लोग (क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी भी) भारत को दुश्मन की नजर से देखते हैं। वे हमारे देश के खत्म होने की कामना करते रहते हैं। वे आतंकवाद को अपनी विदेश नीति के रूप में इस्तेमाल करते हैं। जब उस देश की यह सोच हो, तो उसके खिलाड़ियों के साथ हाथ न मिलाने पर इतनी हाय-तौबा क्यों मचाई जा रही है? वैसे भी, यह दौर राष्ट्रवाद का है। हमें खुद को मजबूत करना होगा, ताकि कोई भी देश हमारी तरफ आंख उठाकर न देख सके। इसके लिए हमें अपनी मजबूती का एहसास बार-बार कराना होगा। अच्छी बात है कि क्रिकेट के मैदान पर हमारे खिलाड़ी हमेशा पाकिस्तानी खिलाड़ियों पर बीस साबित होते हैं। इससे उनको पता चल जाता होगा कि भारत, पाकिस्तान से कितना मजबूत हो चुका है?

For us, the nation comes first, everything else is secondary, even cricket. If Pakistan did not harbor ill will towards our country or promote terrorism in our country, it is possible that our players would not only play bilateral tournaments but also travel to Pakistan. But the truth is different. The Pakistani government and its people (including cricket players) view India as an enemy. They wish for our country’s destruction. They use terrorism as a foreign policy. If that country has this mindset, why is there so much hue and cry over its players not shaking hands? Anyway, this is an era of nationalism. We must strengthen ourselves so that no country can look us in the eye. To do this, we must repeatedly demonstrate our strength. It’s a good thing that our players always outperform Pakistani players on the cricket field. This should give them an idea of ​​how much stronger India has become than Pakistan.
