Literature in the State House

नई दिल्ली, 4 दिसंबर। कई सौ वर्ष पश्चात आज प्रथम बार देशरत्न बाबू राजेन्द्र प्रसाद की कृपा से भारतीय साहित्य, भारतीय गान और भारतीय नृत्य को राजकीय भवन में उचित स्थान मिला जबकि अखिल भारतीय हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन की ओर से राष्ट्रपति डाक्टर राजेन्द्र प्रसाद की 66 वीं वर्षगांठ मनाने के लिए वहां हिन्दी साहित्य समारोह का आयोजन किया गया था। यह समारोह राजकीय भवन की नृत्यशाला में सम्पन्न हुआ, जहां साहित्यकारों का जमघट था। इस अवसर पर लगभग 500 व्यक्तियों के सम्मुख भाषण करते हुए डाक्टर राजेन्द्र प्रसाद ने कला को राज दरबार में प्रोत्साहन देने की प्राचीन भारतीय परम्परा की चर्चा की और कहा कि अब देश के स्वतन्त्र होने पर पुनः वह दिन आ गया है, जब सरकार को भारतीय कला और साहित्य को प्रोत्साहन देना चाहिये।

राष्ट्रपति ने अपने भवन की चर्चा करते हुए कहा कि यहां जो चित्रकला आप देख रहे हैं, वह हमारी कला नहीं है। वह तथा वहां के बैठने, रहने व खाने तक का तरीका हमारा नहीं है, सब विदेशी है। उन्होंने विश्वास दिलाया कि ये सब चीजें धीरे-धीरे बदली जायेंगी। उन्होंने आशा प्रकट की कि आगामी चुनाव के पश्चात जो नए राष्ट्रपति होंगे, वे भारतीय कला को अपनाने और प्रोत्साहन देने की परम्परा को जारी रखेंगे। सिनेमा आदि द्वारा कलाकारों को मिलने वाले प्रोत्साहन का उल्लेख करते हुए राष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि कारखाने के उत्पादन की तरह एक को अनेक करके उपस्थित करना किसी हद तक ठीक है, क्योंकि गरीब तक भी कम पैसे में उन चीजों को देख सकते हैं और इसलिए उसकी कदर है और उसे स्थान भी प्राप्त हुआ है, किंतु उच्च कोटि की कला की तभी उन्नति होगी, जब हम एक-एक व्यक्ति को प्रोत्साहन देते हुए उसे अपनी कला का विकास करने का मौका देंगे। उन्होंने कहा कि आज के समारोह के लिए मैंने किसी को इसलिए आमंत्रित नहीं किया, क्योंकि मैं नहीं जानता था कि यह सब किस ढंग का होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि हमें जो काम करना है, उसके लिए धीरे-धीरे कदम बढ़ाना अच्छा होता है। हाथी जब चलता है, तब वह बहुत सम्हलकर एक-एक कदम रखता है, बकरी तो कहीं भी चली जाती है। मैं हर तरह की कला को धीरे-धीरे प्रोत्साहन देता जाऊंगा।

New Delhi, December 4. For the first time in several hundred years, thanks to Bharat Ratna Babu Rajendra Prasad, Indian literature, Indian song, and Indian dance found a proper place in the State House. The All India Hindi Sahitya Sammelan organized a Hindi literature festival to commemorate the 66th birth anniversary of President Dr. Rajendra Prasad. The festival was held in the dance hall of the State House, where literary figures gathered. Speaking to approximately 500 people on this occasion, Dr. Rajendra Prasad spoke of the ancient Indian tradition of promoting art in the royal court and said that now, with the country’s independence, the day has come again when the government should promote Indian art and literature.

Referring to his own house, the President said, “The paintings you see here are not our art. They, and even the way of sitting, living, and eating there, are not ours; they are all foreign.” He assured that all these things will gradually change. He expressed hope that the new President, after the upcoming election, would continue the tradition of embracing and promoting Indian art. Referring to the encouragement provided to artists through cinema, the President said that while it’s okay to present one by one, like a factory product, for a small price, even the poor can see it, and therefore it is valued and recognized. However, high-quality art will only flourish if we encourage each individual and give them the opportunity to develop their art. He said that he didn’t invite anyone to today’s ceremony because he wasn’t sure what kind of approach it would take. He added that it’s best to proceed slowly with the work we have to undertake. When an elephant walks, it takes each step very carefully, while a goat can go anywhere. He said that he will continue to encourage all forms of art gradually.
