Muslim Countries’ Alliance a Serious Concern for India

मुस्लिम देशों का गठबंधन भारत के लिए गंभीर

क्या इस्लामिक नाटो की कोई संभावना है। नाटो के अनुच्छेद-5 की तर्ज पर पाक-सऊदी अरब के आपसी रक्षा गठबंधन में शामिल होने के लिए तुर्किये बातचीत कर रहा है, जो काफी आगे बढ़ चुकी है। अगर ऐसा हुआ, तो भारत के लिए यह चिंता की बात हो सकती है।

पाकिस्तान और सऊदी अरब ने सितंबर-2025 में ‘स्ट्रैटेजिक म्यूचुअल डिफेंस एग्रीमेंट’ पर हस्ताक्षर किए थे, जिसमें किसी एक देश पर हमला दूसरे पर हमला माना जाएगा। यदि तुर्किये इसमें शामिल होता है, तो यह पश्चिम एशिया और उससे आगे के शक्ति-संतुलन में बड़ा बदलाव ला सकता है। वर्तमान में तुर्किये नाटो का सदस्य है और अमेरिका के बाद इसके पास दूसरी सबसे बड़ी सेना है। वह पाकिस्तान के साथ करीबी सैन्य संबंध रखता है। कश्मीर पर पाकिस्तान का समर्थन करने के अलावा, मई-2025 में भारत के साथ ऑपरेशन सिंदूर’ के दौरान तुर्किये ने पाकिस्तान को 350 से अधिक बायरक्तार टीबी 2, ड्रोन तथा ऑपरेटर प्रदान किए थे। इनसे पाकिस्तान ने भारतीय लक्ष्यों पर हमले किए।

हाल के वर्षों में तुर्किये-पाकिस्तान रक्षा सहयोग तेजी से बढ़ा है। तुर्किये पाक नौसेना के लिए एक बेड़ा (बाबुर-क्लास फ्रिगेट्स) का निर्माण कर रहा है। दो जहाज तुर्किये में बने और दो पाकिस्तान में निर्माणाधीन हैं। इसके अलावा, तुर्किये एयरोस्पेस इंडस्ट्रीज पाक वायुसेना के 42 एफ-16 लड़ाकू विमानों का ‘मिडलाइफ रिफिट’ कर रही है, जिससे उनकी उम्र 12,000 घंटे तक बढ़ जाएगी। डोनाल्ड ट्रंप द्वारा नाटो की महत्ता कम करने और क्षेत्र में अमेरिका-इजरायल हितों को प्राथमिकता देने से बदली स्थिति के कारण देश नए सुरक्षा-तंत्र बना रहे हैं। तुर्किये के रक्षा मंत्रालय ने इस पर टिप्पणी करने से इनकार कर दिया, पाकिस्तान के सूचना मंत्रालय ने जवाब नहीं दिया और सऊदी अधिकारी उपलब्ध नहीं हुए, लेकिन अगर ऐसा होता है, तो इस्लामिक नाटो तुर्किये-सऊदी संबंधों में नई शुरुआत का संकेत देगा, जहां वर्षों की प्रतिद्वंद्विता के बाद अब आर्थिक और रक्षा सहयोग बढ़ रहा है। दोनों देश ईरान के प्रभाव, सीरिया में सुन्नी सरकार और फलस्तीन की स्थापना जैसे मुद्दों पर चिंतित हैं। तुर्किये के शामिल होने से यह गठबंधन परमाणु शक्ति और इस्लाम के पवित्र स्थलों के संरक्षक सऊदी अरब का मिलन होगा। भारत के लिए यह घटनाक्रम निगरानी और चिंता का विषय हो सकता है, क्योंकि तुर्किये पहले से ही पाकिस्तान का मजबूत समर्थक रहा है। ‘इस्लामिक नाटो’ जैसा गठबंधन क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा के लिए नई चुनौतियां पेश कर सकता है।

Is an Islamic NATO a possibility? Turkey is reportedly in advanced talks to join a mutual defense alliance between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, modeled after NATO’s Article 5. If this materializes, it could be a cause for concern for India.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a ‘Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement’ in September 2025, which stipulates that an attack on one country will be considered an attack on the other. If Turkey joins, it could significantly alter the balance of power in West Asia and beyond. Turkey is currently a NATO member and possesses the second-largest army after the US. It also maintains close military ties with Pakistan. Besides supporting Pakistan on Kashmir, Turkey provided Pakistan with over 350 Bayraktar TB2 drones and operators during ‘Operation Sindoor’ against India in May 2025. These drones were used by Pakistan to attack Indian targets.

In recent years, Turkey-Pakistan defense cooperation has grown rapidly. Turkey is building a fleet of Babur-class frigates for the Pakistan Navy; two ships have been built in Turkey, and two are under construction in Pakistan. Additionally, Turkish Aerospace Industries is performing a ‘mid-life refit’ on 42 of the Pakistan Air Force’s F-16 fighter jets, extending their lifespan by 12,000 hours. The changing geopolitical landscape, driven by Donald Trump’s downplaying of NATO’s importance and prioritization of US-Israeli interests in the region, is leading countries to forge new security arrangements. The Turkish Ministry of Defense declined to comment, the Pakistani Ministry of Information did not respond, and Saudi officials were unavailable, but if this alliance materializes, an Islamic NATO would signal a new beginning in Turkey-Saudi relations, where economic and defense cooperation is now increasing after years of rivalry. Both countries are concerned about issues such as Iran’s influence, a Sunni government in Syria, and the establishment of a Palestinian state. Turkey’s inclusion in this alliance would unite it with Saudi Arabia, a nuclear power and guardian of Islam’s holy sites. This development could be a matter of concern for India, as Turkey has historically been a strong supporter of Pakistan. An alliance resembling an “Islamic NATO” could pose new challenges to regional security.
