पिलानी का शिक्षा-केन्द्र

पिलानी राजस्थान का सुपरिचित शिक्षा केन्द्र है। इस केन्द्र को स्थापित हुए आधी शताब्दी बीत चुकी है और यह अपनी स्वर्ण जयन्ती मना रहा है। इस शिक्षा-केन्द्र की शुरुआत एक छोटी-सी पाठशाला के रूप में हुई थी, किन्तु उसने अब विशाल रूप धारण कर लिया है। उससे न केवल राजस्थान के बल्कि दूर दूर के विद्यार्थी लाभ उठा रहे हैं। पिलानी में जिस बिड़ला विद्या-प्रहार का उद्घाटन राष्ट्रपति डा. राजेन्द्र प्रसाद ने किया, उसमें अब तक सात लाख वर्गफुट के भवन बनाये जा चुके हैं और निर्माण कार्य को पूरा करने के लिए डेढ़ करोड़ रुपये का व्यय आवश्यक होगा। पिलानी शिक्षा-केन्द्र में इस समय कला, विज्ञान, वाणिज्य तथा इंजीनिरिग के 4 कालेज, दो हाई-स्कूल-एक बालकों का तथा दूसरा बालिकाओं का, एक मॉन्टेसरी स्कूल तथा 9 प्राइमरी स्कूल चल रहे हैं, जिनमें 3,200 विद्यार्थी शिक्षा पाते हैं। इसके अलावा, इस केन्द्र द्वारा आसपास के क्षेत्र में 75 ग्राम पाठशालायें और चलाई जाती हैं, जिनमें 4 हजार से अधिक विद्यार्थी शिक्षा पाते हैं। इस शिक्षा-केन्द्र की स्थापना, विकास और संचालन का श्रेय बिड़ला परिवार को है।

राष्ट्रपति ने ठीक ही कहा है कि यह एक परिवार के विद्या-प्रेम और कौशल का फल है, जिसे देखकर कोई भी चमत्कृतं हुए बिना नहीं रह सकता। मरुभूमि के एक निर्जन स्थान में उच्च शिक्षा का प्रबन्ध और उसके लिए सभी आधुनिक सुविधाओं को जुटाना आसान काम नहीं था। किन्तु बिड़ला परिवार ने पिलानी की मरुभूमि को हरियाली में बदल दिया है। डा. राजेन्द्र प्रसाद ने कहा है कि अगर ईश्वर धन दे तो उसका उपयोग इसी प्रकार के पुण्य कृत्यों में होना चाहिये।

बिड़ला शिक्षा ट्रस्ट के अध्यक्ष श्री धनश्यामदासजी ने अपने भाषण में उन आलोचनाओं का जिक्र किया है, जो मौजूदा शिक्षा-प्रणाली की इन दिनों की जाती है। उनका यह कहना सही है कि ऐसी आलोचनायें कुछ मदद नहीं देतीं। जब शक्ति हमारे हाथ में नहीं थी, तब ऐसी आलोचनाओं का कुछ मूल्य था। किन्तु अब शक्ति हमारे हाथ में आ चुकी है, तब आलोचना करने के बजाय यह ज्यादा अच्छा होगा कि हम जिस शिक्षा-प्रणाली को दोषपूर्ण समझते हैं, उसको बदल दें और अपनी मनपसन्द प्रणाली प्रचलित करें, जो राष्ट्र की आज की आवश्यकताओं को भली प्रकार पूरा कर सके।

Pilani is a well-known educational center in Rajasthan. It has been half a century since its establishment, and it is celebrating its golden jubilee. This educational center began as a small school, but has now grown to become a massive institution, benefiting students not only from Rajasthan but also from far and wide. The Birla Vidya Prahar in Pilani, inaugurated by President Dr. Rajendra Prasad, has already constructed seven hundred thousand square feet of buildings, and the completion of the construction will require an expenditure of 1.5 crore rupees. The Pilani Education Center currently operates four colleges in arts, science, commerce, and engineering, two high schools—one for boys and one for girls, a Montessori school, and nine primary schools, enrolling 3,200 students. In addition, the center runs 75 village schools in the surrounding area, educating over 4,000 students. The Birla family is credited with the establishment, development, and operation of this educational center.

The President rightly said that this is the result of a family’s love for learning and skill, a feat that no one can fail to marvel at. Providing higher education in a desolate desert location and providing all modern facilities was no easy task. However, the Birla family has transformed the desert of Pilani into a verdant greenery. Dr. Rajendra Prasad said that if God grants wealth, it should be used for such charitable acts.

In his speech, Shri Dhanshyamdasji, President of the Birla Education Trust, mentioned the criticisms that are currently leveled against the current education system. He is right in saying that such criticisms are of no help. Such criticisms held some value when power was not in our hands. But now that the power is in our hands, instead of criticizing, it would be better to change the education system which we consider to be flawed and introduce our preferred system which can best meet the present needs of the nation.
