भारत की राजधानी में तीन अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय इंजीनियरी सम्मेलन प्रारंभ हुए हैं। साथ ही एक अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय इंजीनियरिंग प्रदर्शनी भी आयोजित की गई है। इंजीनियरी सम्मेलनों के संयुक्त अधिवेशन का उद्घाटन भारत के गृह मंत्री श्री राजगोपालाचार्य ने किया। दुनिया की मौजूदा परिस्थितियों में, जबकि महायुद्ध के बादल मंडरा रहे हैं, इन सम्मेलनों का विशेष महत्व है। ये सम्मेलन मनुष्य के रचनात्मक प्रयासों के सूचक हैं। उनसे यह पता चलता है कि मानव जाति की बुद्धि का अभी बिल्कुल दीवाला नहीं निकल गया है। दुनिया के छोटे और बड़े राष्ट्र जाति, देश, धर्म और विचारधाराओं के भेदों को भूलकर आज भी एक दूसरे के साथ सहयोग कर सकते हैं। इस सहयोग की भावना में ही विश्व शांति के बीज छिपे हुए हैं। जब तक मानव कल्याण की यह भावना, जिससे प्रेरित होकर दुनिया के विभिन्न राष्ट्रों के इंजीनियर भारत की भूमि में एकत्र हुए हैं, दुनिया के लोगों में जीवित रहेगी, तब तक मानव जाति का भविष्य अन्धकारमय नहीं हो सकता।

स्वतन्त्र भारत की शक्तियां आज विशेष रूप से युद्ध के खतरे का निवारण करने और विश्व शांति को सुरक्षित करने में लग रही हैं। दुनिया के अनेक भागों में अभाव और दरिद्रता का बोलबाला है। विज्ञान की समस्त प्रगति के बावजूद, लोगों का जीवन स्तर गिरा हुआ है। लोगों के इस जीवन स्तर को ऊंचा उठाने के लिए भारी रचनात्मक प्रयासों की आवश्यकता है।… दुनिया के कुछ देश औद्योगिक उन्नति और भौतिक समृद्धि की दौड़ में काफी आगे निकल गये हैं। इसके विपरीत एशिया और दूर पूर्व के देशों पर भाग्य उतना कृपालु नहीं रहा। वे अभी भी औद्योगिक दृष्टि से अल्पविकसित हैं। दुनिया का उन्नत और अवनत, समृद्ध और कंगाल इस प्रकार दो भागों में विभक्त रहना खतरनाक है। इस तथ्य को दुनिया के समृद्धिशील देश भी अनुभव करते जाते हैं। दुनिया के वर्तमान तनाव की जड़ में यह विषमता काम कर रही है। दुनिया के औद्योगिक दृष्टि से उन्नत देशों के पास उस ज्ञान की पूंजी है, जो अल्प विकसित देशों को उनके उन्नति के प्रयासों में बहुत सहायक हो सकती है। वर्तमान इंजीनियरिंग सम्मेलनों में दुनिया के 35 राष्ट्रों का भाग लेना इस बात का परिचायक है कि ये देश अल्पविकसित देशों को सहायता देने के लिए प्रस्तुत हैं।

Three international engineering conferences have commenced in the Indian capital. An international engineering exhibition has also been organized. The joint session of the engineering conferences was inaugurated by India’s Home Minister, Shri Rajagopalachari. In the current global situation, with the clouds of war looming, these conferences hold special significance. They are indicative of humanity’s constructive endeavors and demonstrate that human intelligence has not yet been completely bankrupt. Even today, the world’s nations, both large and small, can cooperate with one another, forgetting differences of race, country, religion, and ideology. The seeds of world peace lie in this spirit of cooperation. As long as this spirit of human welfare, which has inspired engineers from various nations of the world to gather on Indian soil, remains alive among the people of the world, the future of humanity cannot be bleak.

The energies of independent India are currently focused particularly on averting the threat of war and securing world peace. In many parts of the world, scarcity and poverty prevail. Despite all the progress of science, the standard of living of the people remains low. Enormous constructive efforts are needed to raise this standard of living. … Some countries of the world have advanced considerably in the race for industrial progress and material prosperity. In contrast, the countries of Asia and the Far East have not been so fortunate. They are still industrially underdeveloped. It is dangerous for the world to remain divided into two parts in this way – advanced and underdeveloped, rich and poor. The prosperous nations of the world are also realizing this fact. This disparity is at the root of the current global tensions. The industrially advanced countries of the world possess a wealth of knowledge that can be of great assistance to the underdeveloped countries in their efforts towards progress. The participation of 35 nations in the current engineering conferences is an indication that these countries are ready to assist the underdeveloped nations.
