रसोई गैस को लेकर मचे हाहाकार और दिन उससे जुड़ी परेशानियों को लेकर प्रशासन की तरफ से दोहरी बात क्यों कही जा रही. है? एक ओर, दावा किया जाता है कि देश में गैस-तेल की कोई कमी नहीं, वहीं दूसरी ओर, गैस बुकिंग को लेकर गांव में 45 और शहरों में 25 दिन निर्धारित कर दिए जाते हैं। ऐसे में, जनता आखिर क्या करे ? जब बुकिंग की हालत पूर्व जैसी होती, तो शायद अभी जो गैस को लेकर हाहाकार मचा हुआ है, वह नहीं मचता। अगर यह दावा सच है कि गैस-तेल की किल्लत नहीं है, तो फ़िर गैस बुकिंग के नियमों में बदलाव क्यों किया गया है ? बिना आग के तो धुआं नहीं उठता। लोगों में उलझन और चिंता इन्हीं वजहों से अधिक है। स्थिति को पहले की भांति करने के लिए सरकार लोगों में भरोसा पैदा करे। इसके लिए उनको सबसे पहले सच बताना चाहिए।

पश्चिम एशिया में बढ़ते तनाव और वैश्विक ऊर्जा आपूर्ति में आई बाधाओं के कारण देश में रसोई गैस की उपलब्धता को लेकर चिंता का माहौल बन गया है। खबर है कि दिल्ली हाईकोर्ट की कैंटीन में भोजन सेवा अस्थायी रूप से बंद करनी पड़ी, वहीं अयोध्या में निःशुल्क भोजन कराने वाली ‘राम रसोई’ को भी गैस की अनिश्चित उपलब्धता के कारण बंद करना पड़ा। रेलवे की खानपान सेवा भी प्रभावित हुई है। भारतीय रेलवे खानपान एवं पर्यटन निगम (आईआरसीटीसी) ने कैटरिंग इकाईयों को माइक्रोवेव और इंडक्शन जैसे वैकल्पिक साधनों का उपयोग करने के निर्देश दिए हैं। औद्योगिक क्षेत्र भी इस संकट से अछूता नहीं है। उत्तर प्रदेश के फिरोजाबाद का कांच उद्योग गैस आपूर्ति में बाधा के कारण उत्पादन कम करने को मजबूर हुआ है। कई कारखानों में 30 से 40 प्रतिशत तक उत्पादन घटा दिया गया है। इसी तरह, पंजाब में गैस संकट का मुद्दा विधानसभा तक पहुंच गया है और व्यावसायिक सिलेंडरों की आपूर्ति लगभग ठप होने से उद्योग व व्यापार प्रभावित हो रहे हैं। कई जगहों पर उर्वरक उत्पादन करने वाले संयंत्रों में गैस की कमी से यूरिया उत्पादन रुक गया है। मध्य प्रदेश, बिहार, उत्तराखंड और छत्तीसगढ़ जैसे राज्यों में गैस एजेंसियों के सामने लंबी-लंबी कतारें देखी जा रही हैं। इंदौर और भोपाल में बुकिंग प्रणाली बाधित होने से उपभोक्ताओं को परेशानी हो रही है। ऐसे कई अन्य उदाहरण भी हैं। विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि यदि अंतरराष्ट्रीय संकट लंबे समय तक चलता है, तो ऊर्जा के अन्य साधनों पर ध्यान देना आवश्यक होगा। लिहाजा, मौजूदा परिस्थिति हमें यह सबक भी दे रही है कि हमें अपने ऊर्जा संसाधनों का विवेकपूर्ण उपयोग करना चाहिए।

Why is the administration speaking with a double tongue regarding the uproar surrounding cooking gas and the daily hardships associated with it? On one hand, it is claimed that there is no shortage of gas or oil in the country; yet, on the other, a waiting period of 45 days in villages and 25 days in cities has been mandated for gas bookings. In such a scenario, what is the public supposed to do? Had the booking process remained as it was previously, perhaps the current outcry over gas shortages would not have arisen. If the claim that there is no scarcity of gas or oil is indeed true, then why have the rules for gas booking been altered? After all, there is no smoke without fire. It is precisely for these reasons that confusion and anxiety among the public are running high. To restore the situation to its former state, the government must instill confidence in the people. To achieve this, their first step should be to tell the truth.

Due to rising tensions in West Asia and disruptions in the global energy supply, an atmosphere of anxiety has emerged regarding the availability of cooking gas within the country. Reports indicate that food services at the Delhi High Court canteen had to be temporarily suspended, while ‘Ram Rasoi’—a facility providing free meals in Ayodhya—was also forced to shut down due to the uncertain availability of gas. The Railways’ catering services have also been impacted. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has issued directives to its catering units to utilize alternative appliances, such as microwaves and induction cooktops. The industrial sector, too, has not remained untouched by this crisis. The glass industry in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, has been compelled to scale back production due to disruptions in the gas supply. Production has been slashed by 30 to 40 percent in numerous factories. Similarly, in Punjab, the issue of the gas crisis has reached the Legislative Assembly, and industries and businesses are suffering as the supply of commercial gas cylinders has ground to a near-halt. In several locations, urea production has come to a standstill at fertilizer manufacturing plants due to a shortage of gas. Long queues are being witnessed outside gas agencies in states such as Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh. Consumers in Indore and Bhopal are facing difficulties due to disruptions in the booking system. There are numerous other such instances as well. Experts believe that if the international crisis persists for an extended period, it will become imperative to focus on alternative sources of energy. Consequently, the current situation also serves as a lesson that we must utilize our energy resources judiciously.
