ABC star Tony Armstrong reveals plans to start a family

Tony Armstrong says he would love to have children. 

The TV star, who is a sport presenter of the ABC’s morning program News Breakfast, spoke about his strong desire to start a family in an interview with on Monday. 

The former AFL player, 32, has just started voicing the turtle teacher ‘Mr Flip’ in the cartoon Reef School, and says the experience has made him think about becoming a father.

‘When I was doing it I was imagining some of the little kids in my life watching it,’ he said. 

He added that once his goddaughter Harriet realised he was the voice behind the character and it made him clucky.

‘She’s just started clocking that I’m on the telly and she flips out. I’d love to have kids someday,’ he added.

It comes after Tony, who is said to be single, was forced to deny claims he is secretly married back in August to Stellar magazine.

‘If I had a secret wife I’d been hiding all this time, do you think I’d tell you?’ he joked. 

Tony insisted he’s not against the idea of marriage, but won’t be settling down with just anybody.

‘It’s got to be someone pretty special and I suppose I’ve got to be in a space where I can also give them what they need,’ he said. 

Tony explained while his career might be riding high at the moment, he is adamant not to buy into the hype of fame. 

‘I’m just trying to remind myself to enjoy the ride and not buy into things when they’re going well. And not buy into it completely when they aren’t.’

Tony spoke about his his personal life during an interview with the in May, amid rumours he could be the next Bachelor.   

‘The dumbest one that is doing the rounds at the moment is that I’m doing The Bachelor,’ he said.  

‘It is just not true but people who aren’t close friends but would have my number and stuff are buying into it,’ he continued.
