Educated individuals have become terrorists before.

पहले भी पढ़े-लिखे लोग बने आतंकी

‘व्हाइट कॉलर आतंकवाद’ कोई नया टेड नहीं है। यह परिपाटी वर्षों से देखी जा रही है, जिससे सुरक्षा और खुफिया बल लगातार लड़ भी रहे हैं। बीते दो-तीन दशकों में ही देश-दुनिया में न जाने कितने ऐसे युवा आतंकी पकड़े गए हैं जो सिर्फ उच्च शिक्षित थे, बल्कि वेश-भूषा या रहन-सहन से उनको आसानी से पहचान पाना कठिन था। माना जाता है कि इस्लामिक स्टेट ने ऐसे आतंकियों को सबसे ज्यादा आकर्षित किया। उसने विकसित देशों तक में अपने नेटवर्क इस तरह बढ़ाए कि ‘पढ़े-लिखे’ (हालांकि में इसे पढ़ा-लिखा नहीं मानता, क्योंकि शिक्षित व्यक्ति विनयशील होता है) भ्रमित नौजवान उसकी ओर खींचे चले गए। भारत में ऐसी कई कहानियां सामने आ चुकी हैं, जिनमें शिक्षित नौजवान डीकर आतंकी संगठनों में समान अमित। हालांकि, मामला सिर्फ केरल तक स्रीमित नहीं है। भारतीय संसद पर हुए हमले में जिस अफजल गुरु को फांसी फांसी हुई, यह मेडिकल की पढ़ाई छोड़कर आतंकी बना था। उस पर तो कई अन्य नौजवानों को बरगलाने का भी आरोप था। इसी तरह कंधार विमान अपहरण कांड में, जिस उमर सईद शेख को विमान अपहरणकर्ताओं ने छुड़वाया, वह लंदन स्कूल ऑफ इकोनॉमिक्स में पढ़ाई कर चुका है। खूंखार आतंकी ओसामा बिन लादेन को कौन नहीं जानता ? वह भी सिविल इंजीनियरिंग की पढ़ाई कर चुका था। ये तो कुछ ऐसे उदाहरण हैं, जो देश तरीके से अपनी नापाक मंशा में जुटे होंगे। दुनिया में चर्चित हैं। कई नाम तो गुपचुप ऐसे लोग या तो किसी धर्मगुरु के संपर्क में आने के बाद आतंकी बनते हैं या फिर इंटरनेट पर मे बानीया उन्माद इस कदर भर नेहादी सामग्रियों को देखकर दो जाती है कि अच्छे और बुरे की परख उनमें खत्म हो जाती है। मेडिकल या इंजीनियरिंग या उच्चा शिक्षा पाने वाले आतंकियों के बारे में यह नहीं कहा जा सकता कि ये प्रताड़ित थे और आर्थिक तंगी से जा रहे थे। वे चाहते तो खुशहाल जिंदगी जी सकते थे। फिर भी, उन्होंने आतंकवादी बनना कुबूल किया, और अपना जीवन नरक बना लिया।

हमें समझना होगा कि नेहाद एक पैचारिक आंदोलन है और किसी भी विचारधारा को आगे बढ़ाने में पढ़ा-लिखा तबका ज्यादा कारगर होता है। संभवतः इसीलिए आतंकी संगठनों की नजरें काफी पहले से उच्च शिक्षित नौजवानों पर रही हैं। वे जीवन मूल्यों की मनमाफिक व्याख्या करके इनको भ्रमित कर देते हैं। ऐसे में, हमारी सरकारों के सामने दोहरी चुनौती है। उनको दहशतगर्दी भी रोकनी है और नौजवानों को भ्रमित होने से बचाना भी है। कुणाल श्रीवास्तव, टिप्पणीकार

‘White-collar terrorism’ is not a new trend. This trend has been observed for years, and security and intelligence forces are constantly combating it. In the past two to three decades alone, countless young terrorists have been arrested across the country and the world who were not only highly educated, but also difficult to identify by their appearance or lifestyle. It is believed that the Islamic State (IS) has attracted such terrorists the most. It has expanded its network even in developed countries to such an extent that ‘educated’ (though I do not consider this to be ‘educated’, as an educated person is humble) misguided youth have been drawn to it. Several such stories have emerged in India, in which educated youth have become involved in terrorist organizations. However, the issue is not limited to Kerala. Afzal Guru, who was hanged for the attack on the Indian Parliament, had abandoned his medical studies to become a terrorist. He was also accused of instigating many other young people. Similarly, in the Kandahar plane hijacking incident, Omar Saeed Sheikh, who was freed by the hijackers, had studied at the London School of Economics. Who doesn’t know the dreaded terrorist Osama bin Laden? He too had studied civil engineering. These are just a few examples of individuals who may be pursuing their nefarious designs in a systematic manner. They are well-known worldwide. Many such individuals become terrorists after coming into contact with a religious leader or are so intoxicated by watching provocative material on the internet that they lose their sense of right and wrong. It cannot be said that terrorists with medical or engineering degrees or higher education were persecuted or faced financial hardship. They could have lived a happy life if they wanted. Yet, they accepted to become terrorists and made their lives hell.

We must understand that proselytism is an ideological movement, and the educated class is more effective in promoting any ideology. Perhaps this is why terrorist organizations have long targeted highly educated youth. They mislead them by interpreting life values ​​in a way they deem fit.
