गणित के क्षेत्र में लगातार बढ़ रहा भारत

हमारे देश में हर दिन कुछ न कुछ विशेष होता है। इसी क्रम में प्रतिवर्ष 22 दिसंबर को राष्ट्रीय गणित दिवस मनाया जाता है। इस दिन की शुरुआत 2012 में तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह द्वारा की गई थी, तब से हर साल महान गणितज्ञ श्रीनिवास रामानुजन को याद करते हुए यह दिवस मनाया जाता है। यह वह महान दिन है, जो गणित के क्षेत्र में असाधारण प्रतिभाओं को याद करने का हमें अवसर देता है।

इसे मनाने का मुख्य उद्देश्य गणित के महत्व के बारे में जागरूकता पैदा करना और छात्रों को गणित में करियर बनाने के लिए उत्साहित करना है। वाकई, देश की युवा पीढ़ी में गणित सीखने के प्रति उत्साह, प्रेरणा और सकारात्मक दृष्टिकोण बढ़ा है। उनमें यह भावना विकसित करने के लिए कई तरह की पहल भी की जा रही हैं। यहां तक कि कार्यशालाओं, प्रशिक्षण शिविरों के माध्यम से शिक्षकों व छात्रों के क्षमता-निर्माण, गणित के लिए शिक्षण सामग्रियों के विकास, उत्पादन व वितरण और संबंधित क्षेत्रों में अनुसंधान को प्राथमिकता दी जाती है। ऐसा किया जाना जरूरी भी है, क्योंकि प्राचीन काल में हम गणित के सर्वोच्च रहे हैं। पांचवीं सदी के महान गणितज्ञ आर्यभट्ट से लेकर ब्रह्मगुप्त, भास्कर से लेकर आधुनिक युग में श्रीनिवास रामानुजन, पीसी महालनोबिस, कल्यामपुडी राधाकृष्ण राव, डॉ. कारपेकर, सत्येंद्रनाथ बोस, शकुंतला देवी, नरेंद्र करमकर आदि अनेक गणितज्ञों ने देश और दुनिया में नाम कमाया है। आर्यभट्ट जहां खगोलीय मामलों के विशेषज्ञ थे, तो वहीं ब्रह्मगुप्त ने छठी शताब्दी में शून्य की खोज कर दुनिया को महान अवदान दिया। इसी तरह लोकमान्य बाल गंगाधर तिलक ने अपनी प्रतिभा से वेदों में वर्णित नक्षत्रों की गति के आधार पर वेदकालीन सामाजिक जीवन का विश्लेषण किया। शकुंतला देवी ‘मानव कंप्यूटर’ के रूप में ख्यात महिला गणितज्ञ थीं। अपनी असाधारण बुद्धि से उन्होंने गणित में कई विश्व रिकॉर्ड स्थापित किए।

आज भी गणित को लेकर हमारा रुझान कम नहीं हुआ है। बच्चों और किशोरों में गणित को लेकर उत्साह बढ़ रहा है। यह अच्छी बात है कि गणित में और रुचि बढ़ाने के लिए खास दिवस मानने की परंपरा शुरू हुई है। इसका भी असर पड़ेगा। आज गणित विषय पठन-पाठन में ही नहीं, करियर के लिहाज से भी बेहद अहम विषय माना लगा है। यहां तक कि एआई में भी, जिसकी चौतरफा चर्चा है, गणना का काफी इस्तेमाल होता है। ऐसे में, राष्ट्रीय गणित दिवस का महत्व हमारे लिए और बढ़ जाता है। इससे प्रेरणा लेकर हमारे युवा गणित की दुनिया के शिखर को प्राप्त करने की भरपूर चेष्टा करेंगे।

Something special happens in our country every day. ​​In this vein, National Mathematics Day is celebrated annually on December 22nd. This day was initiated in 2012 by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and since then, it has been celebrated every year in remembrance of the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. This is a significant day that gives us the opportunity to remember extraordinary talents in the field of mathematics.

The main objective of celebrating this day is to create awareness about the importance of mathematics and to encourage students to pursue careers in mathematics. Indeed, the enthusiasm, motivation, and positive attitude towards learning mathematics have increased among the country’s youth. Several initiatives are also being undertaken to cultivate this spirit in them. Priority is given to capacity building for teachers and students through workshops and training camps, the development, production, and distribution of teaching materials for mathematics, and research in related fields. This is essential because, in ancient times, we were at the forefront of mathematics. From the great mathematician Aryabhata of the 5th century to Brahmagupta, Bhaskara, and in the modern era, Srinivasa Ramanujan, P.C. Mahalanobis, C.R. Rao, Dr. Kaprekar, Satyendra Nath Bose, Shakuntala Devi, Narendra Karmarkar, and many other mathematicians have earned recognition in the country and the world. While Aryabhata was an expert in astronomical matters, Brahmagupta made a great contribution to the world by discovering zero in the 6th century. Similarly, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, with his brilliance, analyzed the social life of the Vedic period based on the movement of constellations described in the Vedas. Shakuntala Devi was a renowned female mathematician known as the “human computer.” With her extraordinary intelligence, she set several world records in mathematics.

Even today, our inclination towards mathematics has not diminished. The enthusiasm for mathematics is growing among children and teenagers. It is a positive development that the tradition of celebrating a special day to further increase interest in mathematics has begun. This will also have a positive impact. Today, mathematics is considered a very important subject not only for academic study but also from a career perspective. Even in artificial intelligence, which is being discussed everywhere, computation plays a significant role. Therefore, National Mathematics Day becomes even more important for us. Inspired by this, our youth will strive to reach the pinnacle of the world of mathematics.
