साहस का प्रकाश हो
मनुष्य की अनादि खोजों में से एक है प्रकाश की खोज। जरा सोचें, जब धरती पर घना अंधेरा था और उजाले का कोई नामो-निशान न था, तब मनुष्य की क्या हालत रही होगी? आश्चर्य नहीं कि उस घुटन से निकलने के लिए प्रकाश की खोज शुरू हुई। और जब उसने बाहर के प्रकाश का इंतजाम कर लिया, तब भीतर के प्रकाश की खोज शुरू हुई।
प्रकाश से मनुष्य का वास्ता बहुत गहरा है, क्योंकि उसका अपना स्वरूप प्रकाशमय है, प्रकाश के बहाने वह मानो खुद को ही खोज रहा है। बाहरी प्रकाश की खोज से दीवाली जैसे उत्सव शुरू हुए और भीतरी प्रकाश की खोज ने अध्यात्म को जन्म दिया, क्योंकि जब तक वह नहीं मिलता, तब तक मनुष्य होने की सार्थकता नहीं होगी।
भीतरी प्रकाश की एक खूबी है, वह कभी बुझत नहीं, वह अहर्निश जलने वाला एक दीया है, जिसमें न बाती है, न तेल। इसे खोजने के लिए अंतर की आंखें खोलनी होंगी। दूसरी खूबी, दूसरों द्वारा इस दीये को जलाने से अपने प्रकाश का अनुभव नहीं होगा। अपना दीया खुद जलाना होगा। जैसे, एक जेन साधु ने अपने शिष्य को इसकी सीख दी।
उसके आश्रम से विदा होने का वक्त आया, तो उस साधु ने एक दीया जलाया, उस युवक के हाथ में दीया दिया और उसे सीढ़ियों से उतारने के लिए खुद उसके साथ हो लिया। जब वह सीढ़ियां पार कर चुका और आश्रम का द्वार भी, तो उस साधु ने कहा- अब मैं अलग होता हूं, क्योंकि इस जीवन के रास्ते पर बहुत दूर तक कोई किसी का साथ नहीं दे सकता। इतना कहकर उस घनी अंधेरी रात में उसने शिष्य के हाथ के दीये को फूंक मारकर बुझा दिया। दूसरों के जलाये हुए दीये का कोई मूल्य नहीं है। अपना ही दीया हो, तो वह अंधेरे में काम देता है, किसी अन्य के दीये काम नहीं देते हैं। अंधेरे में जो अकेले चलने का साहस करता है, उसके भीतर साहस का प्रकाश पैदा होना शुरू हो जाता है।
तीसरी बात, प्रकाश को पाना हो, तो अंधेरे से दोस्ती करें, क्योंकि अंधेरा प्रकाश का ही एक रूप है। खुद के भीतर से प्रकाश निकले, तो ही रास्ता प्रकाशित होता है, प्रकाश को पाना हो, तो अंधेरे से दोस्ती करें, क्योंकि अंधेरा प्रकाश का ही एक रूप है। खुद के भीतर से प्रकाश निकले, तो ही रास्ता प्रकाशित होता है, और कोई दीया काम नहीं आता।
और कोई दीया काम नहीं आता। अंधेरे में जो अकेले चलने का साहस करता है विना प्रकाश के, उसके भीतर साहस का प्रकाश पैदा होना शुरू हो जाता है।
दीवाली का भी यही संदेश है कि अपना दीया खुद जलाओ, या खुद ही दीया बनकर जलो। फर्ज करें, घर-घर में लोग प्रज्वलित होकर रोशनी फैला रहे हैं, उनके अंतस से निकल रही प्रकाश किरणें पूरे परिसर को आलोकित कर रही हैं, तो कैसी नूरानी दीवाली होगी। फिर क्या कृत्रिम दीयों की याद आएगी ?
अमृत साधना
One of humanity’s eternal quests is the search for light. Just imagine, when the earth was shrouded in darkness and there was no trace of light, what must have been humanity’s condition? It’s no wonder that the search for light began to escape that suffocation. And when it secured external light, it was then that the search for inner light began.
Humanity’s connection to light is profound, for its very nature is luminous; through light, it is as if it were searching for itself. The search for external light gave rise to festivals like Diwali, and the search for inner light gave birth to spirituality, because until it is found, there will be no meaning in being human.
Inner light has one special quality: it never goes out; it is a lamp that burns day and night, with neither wick nor oil. To find it, one must open one’s inner eyes. Another quality: one cannot experience one’s own light by having others light it. One must light one’s own lamp. For example, a Zen monk taught this to his disciple.
When it was time to leave his ashram, the monk lit a lamp, placed it in the young man’s hand, and accompanied him down the stairs. When he had crossed the stairs and the entrance of the ashram, the monk said, “I am leaving now, for no one can accompany anyone very far on this path of life.” Having said this, he blew out the lamp from his disciple’s hand on that pitch-dark night. Lamps lit by others have no value. If you have your own lamp, it serves you in the darkness; others’ lamps do not. The one who dares to walk alone in the darkness begins to awaken the light of courage within.
Thirdly, if you want to find light, befriend darkness, for darkness is a form of light. Only when light emanates from within can the path become illuminated. If you want to find light, befriend darkness, for darkness is a form of light. Only when light emanates from within oneself does the path become illuminated; no other lamp is useful.
No other lamp is useful. The one who dares to walk alone in the darkness without any light, the light of courage begins to arise within him.
The message of Diwali is the same: light your own lamp, or become a lamp yourself. Imagine, in every home, people are lighting lamps and spreading light, the rays of light emanating from their hearts illuminating the entire area. What a luminous Diwali it will be. Will artificial lamps be remembered then?
