3 Rules of Money

You don’t need a bigger salary,
you need a bigger mindset

Money grows in the mind,
before it grows in the bank

Stop asking can i afford it,
and start asking how can i create it.

In Memory of Ram Sutar

The passing of Ram Vanji Sutar, one of the country’s most renowned and experienced sculptors, is an irreparable loss to the art world. The sculptor, who passed away at the age of 100, will always be remembered for his contributions. He was honored both in India and abroad for creating the ‘Statue of Unity’ (182 meters), one of the tallest statues in the world. A resident of Dhule district in Maharashtra, Ram Sutar was a gold medalist from the JJ School of Art in Mumbai. The ease and skill in his work are commendable. He created sculptures that were remarkably lifelike. For him, sculpting was not just an art, but also a science, which is why his creations appear so vibrant and full of life. In recent years, he became known for the colossal statue of Sardar Patel at the Sardar Sarovar Dam, but for a long time before that, he was recognized for his busts of Mahatma Gandhi. His Gandhi statues are installed in many countries.

Ram Sutar is no longer with us, but his sculptures, installed in nearly five hundred cities around the world, serve as a lasting tribute to him. Therefore, he will not be forgotten, not only in India but in many other countries as well. Most contemporary sculptors have closely observed and learned from his work.

While many artists create small-scale sculptures, Ram Sutar’s ability to bring colossal statues to life sets him apart.

His realistic style is an integral part of the sculpture curriculum. Undoubtedly, his cheerful disposition and long life also contributed significantly to his fame. It is also fortunate that he has left behind his sculpting company and a rich legacy. His art will remain indelible. Many sculptors have not formalized their artistic knowledge into an institution, but Ram Sutar is a shining example in this regard. His works and legacy are unparalleled. He is counted among the greatest sculptors of this century and the last. It’s noteworthy that while many artists create small-scale sculptures or figurines, Ram Sutar’s ability to bring colossal statues to life sets him apart. Today, a specialized field of monumental sculptures has developed worldwide. These sculptures are not created for personal satisfaction; they require accurately depicting a deity, person, or leader. Creating life-size statues is relatively easy, but when it comes to colossal sculptures, Ram Sutar stands alone. He wasn’t just a sculptor; he was also an architect and possessed a thorough understanding of civil engineering. He combined these three disciplines to build his artistic empire. If we examine the 182-meter-tall statue of Sardar Patel, we find that the proportions, from Sardar’s eyelids and wrinkles to the lines on his forehead, are astonishing. From the folds of the shawl on his shoulder to the shadows, the statue is so detailed that you can’t help but be captivated. A 1251-meter-tall statue of Ram is yet to be built in Ayodhya. Statues of Shivaji and Ambedkar are planned for Mumbai. The era of glorious monumental statues in India has only just begun. There was so much work left to be done, but alas! Ram Sutar is no more. The truest tribute to him would be to carry forward his unparalleled legacy with all its grandeur.

Dharmendra, some questions that have been in the news

Dharmendra was a very simple person. It is said that in the early days of his career, he established himself in the film industry with the help of his friendship with an established actress like Meena Kumari. It is also said that Meena Kumari was ultimately heartbroken.

There was also unnecessary controversy over Dharmendra’s alleged religious conversion to marry Hema Malini for the second time.

Dharmendra entered politics, but he did not like it. He became an MP from Bikaner on a BJP ticket in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. He was heavily criticized when he made a comment at an election rally about teaching some basic democratic etiquette.

Dharmendra’s lifestyle often became a topic of discussion. He appeared in some drug advertisements, which led to complaints about whether an actor should do such advertisements.

Dharmendra’s films that will be remembered

  1. Bandini (1963)

This Bimal Roy film is one of Dharmendra’s most important early films. In it, he played the prison doctor who sympathizes with and falls in love with Kalyani (Nutan). It was a supporting role, but it cemented his image as a gentle and charming romantic hero.

  1. Haqeeqat (1964)

Directed by Chetan Anand, this film is considered one of the finest action films in Indian cinema. In this film, he played a powerful role of a brave army officer. It was a multi-starrer, based on the 1962 India-China war.

  1. Anupama (1966)

This Hrishikesh Mukherjee film is known for its simple and deep human emotions, melodious music, and excellent acting. Starring Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore, Dharmendra’s calm, serious, gentle, and charming image was appreciated more than his action or romantic style.

  1. Satyakam (1969)

Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, this film also featured Sanjeev Kumar in a key role, but it is remembered for Dharmendra’s soulful performance as Satyapriya Acharya. Dharmendra reached acting heights in this film that he had never reached before, nor could he reach again. Dharmendra himself acknowledged this many times.

  1. Sholay (1975)

One of the most iconic and most successful films in Indian cinema. Dharmendra played the memorable character of Veeru in this Ramesh Sippy film. Veeru’s mischievous nature, his chemistry with Basanti (Hema Malini), and the friendship between Jai and Veeru were well-received by audiences. Lines like “Basanti, don’t dance in front of these dogs” and “Suicide” became popular. This film brought him international recognition.

Dharmendra’s Importance

Actor Dharmendra’s place in this world is like the dawn of an era. He was an artist-hero who emerged in the 1960s, becoming a legend in Indian society through his unique identity. A common saying became, “Hey, are you becoming a mandarin?” “Dharmendra,” he said, “means you’re becoming a strong man.” There was a time when boys were enamored with Dharmendra, and girls with Hema Malini. Countless young men emulated them. However, he entered the film industry following Dilip Kumar’s example. His stature in what we now call Bollywood was still resonant fifty years ago. Especially after Raj Kapoor, he was seen as a force to be reckoned with in the world of cinema. This is why, in politics, he was always sought after as a star campaigner, and as a Member of Parliament, he left a legacy of his own. He lived a fulfilling life spanning 89 years, a truly exemplary example. The world is watching: a young man who arrived in Mumbai empty-handed, with just a dream, has left behind a financial legacy of over a thousand crore rupees.

Remember, in the cinematic society that emerged after India’s independence, Dharmendra was the most influential representative of Punjabi culture, just as Amitabh Bachchan represented North Indian culture. When these two representatives of India came together, Dharmendra was given films like Sholay, Satyakam, Woh Haqeeqat, Dharamveer, Bandini, and Sholay. These films will never be forgotten. He possessed certain qualities that earned him recognition and for which he should always be remembered. First, he was an actor with a sensual image, a legacy his father contributed greatly to. He became very successful, but he never deviated from his father’s discipline. Dharmendra always felt that he should not do anything that would upset his father. This is why his father was overjoyed when he saw his son as a powerful warrior in the film Dharamveer.

It was his natural, humane family spirit that endeared Dharmendra to sensitive film directors.

Dharmendra’s second major quality was that he never allowed the importance of family to diminish. This is why, despite two marriages, there was never a rift in his large family.

The third quality was his social skills, which earned him everyone’s love. This sense of belonging and friendliness lent his film roles an extra emotional intensity.

The fourth quality was his face, which was well-suited for acting, conveying romantic expressions as beautifully as the emotion of the body. However, in later years, the expression of anger in films like “Kukuro” and “Main Tera Khoon Pee Sankemud” (I Am Drunk), was lost. His speciality was that he possessed a playful, intoxicating sense of humor. His comedic abilities were also utilized in many films, including action films that had been produced before. But we will never forget the natural way Dharmendra introduced action into the mainstream.

Dharmendra became a common saying in Indian parlance: “Hey, are you becoming Dharmendra?” Becoming Dharmendra came to mean being strong or courageous.

Our country’s success depends on children.

Children’s Day is a day to honor Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s commitment to the welfare of children. Pandit Nehru was born on this day. This day reminds us of the well-being of children. It highlights what more needs to be done to ensure their education, upbringing, and a safe environment. Children are a national asset, and everyone wants to preserve their wealth and even enrich it. As free citizens, we too want to enrich our future, that is, our children. This prosperity can be achieved through knowledge, nutrition, and a safe environment. That is why this day should not be a time for pointing out shortcomings, but rather a time for resolving to improve society. Indeed, many strides have been made for the betterment of children in India. Improved education has been provided for them, leading to a reduction in school dropout rates. We have moved towards 100% enrolment at the secondary level, and dropout rates have also significantly reduced. Gender equality for girls has improved, with an increase in girls’ enrollment and participation. Furthermore, the country has also made good progress in vaccination coverage. Vaccination coverage has improved, although work remains to be done, which we must address. The country’s economic progress has also improved the lives of children. Economic development has provided access to health, education, and nutrition for children. As a result, child labor has significantly decreased, and many effective efforts have been made to address problems like violence.

Pandit Nehru believed that a nation’s success and prosperity depend on its children, a belief that remains relevant today. Without the development of children, a nation cannot develop. It is heartening that many governments agree with this and are working tirelessly for the betterment of children. This trend will continue, and only if we work together with governments, rather than simply criticizing them. If we want this country to become a better place for children, we must promote children from all walks of life equally, with special attention to the disadvantaged and vulnerable.

The richest man in China said:

The richest man in China said: “If you put bananas and money in front of monkeys, the monkeys will choose bananas because they don’t know that money can buy a lot of bananas. In fact, if you offer people work and business, they will choose work because most people don’t know that a business can make more money than a salary. The reason why the poor are poor is because they spend a lot of time in school, and they work for a salary instead of working for themselves, because a salary just gives you an income to live on, but profit can make you a fortune.”
