खाली
एक संत घूमते-फिरते एक दुकान पर आए। दुकान पर कई छोटे-बड़े डिब्बे रखे थे। दुकान पर एक बालक बैठा था। संत ने एक डिब्बे की ओर संकेत करते हुए दुकानदार से पूछा, ‘इसमें क्या है?’ बालक ने कहा, ‘नमक है।’
संत ने फिर पूछा, ‘इसके पास वाले में क्या है?”
बालक ने बताया, ‘हल्दी।’
इसी तरह संत हर डिब्बे के बारे में पूछते रहे और बालक बताता रहा। अंत मे संत ने अंतिम डिब्बे के बारे में पूछा। बालक ने कहा, ‘उसमें भगवान हैं।’
संत हैरत में आ गए, ‘भगवान । भला भगवान किस वस्तु का नाम है? मैंने तो ऐसा कभी नहीं सुना है।’
बालक ने बड़े ही भोलेपन से कहा, ‘महात्मन। यहडिब्बा खाली है। हम खाली डिब्बे को खाली नहीं कहते, उसे भगवान कहते हैं।’ संन्यासी आश्चर्य से भरउठा। अचानक उसे लगा कि जिस बात के लिए वह दर-दर भटक रहा था, वो आज इस बच्चे से समझ आ रही है। यही तो सच है, जो खाली होगा, वहीं तो भगवान होगा। पहले से भरे रहेंगे, तो भगवान को जगह कहां? काम, क्रोध, लोभ, मोह, अभिमान, ईष्यां, द्वेष और भली-बुरी, सुख-दुख की बातों से जब दिल-दिमाग भरा रहेगा, तो उसमें भगवान का वास कैसे होगा? संत आनंद के साथ आगे बढ़ गए।
A saint came to a shop while wandering. There were many small and big boxes kept in the shop. A child was sitting in the shop. Pointing towards a box, the saint asked the shopkeeper, ‘What is in this?’ The child said, ‘There is salt.’
The saint again asked, ‘What is in the box next to this?’
The child said, ‘Turmeric.’
In this way, the saint kept asking about every box and the child kept telling. Finally the saint asked about the last box. The child said, ‘There is God in it.’
The saint was surprised, ‘God. What is the name of God? I have never heard of such a thing.’
The child said very innocently, ‘Mahatma. This box is empty. We do not call an empty box empty, we call it God.’ The sanyasi was filled with surprise. Suddenly he felt that the thing for which he was wandering from door to door, he is understanding it from this child today. This is the truth, God will be there only when it is empty. If we are already full, then where will be the place for God? When the heart and mind are filled with lust, anger, greed, attachment, pride, jealousy, hatred and good-bad, happiness-sorrow, then how will God reside in it? The saint moved forward with joy.
