difference between ngo and npo

NGO stands for non-governmental organization, and NPO stands for non-profit organization. Both types of organizations often work to improve society and human welfare, but they can have different objectives, scopes of work, and funding sources:

  • NGOsUsually take on large projects that operate in wide geographic areas, often nationally or internationally. They may focus on a specific cause or issue, such as education, healthcare, human rights, environmental conservation, or poverty alleviation. NGOs often work in areas where the government is active and may receive funding from the government or international aid organizations.
  • NPOsUsually community or faith based, and focus on regional and local matters. They may have a broader scope of objectives, including cultural preservation, community development, sports promotion, or religious activities. NPOs receive funding for specific projects, and some NGOs may fund NPOs. NPOs return any profits they make to the organization to pay expenses and salaries and further its goals. They don’t pay out profits to shareholders or owners.

Those who call it a conspiracy do not know the rules

Many people are doing politics on Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the Olympics and many things are being said. Some are calling it a conspiracy, while others are saying something else. But before saying anything, we should know the story behind it. Vinesh Phogat’s normal weight is around 57 kg. She has also played in this category before. Some players can easily lose three-four kg of weight, so she used to play in 53 kg also. But this time she lost seven kg and participated in 50 kg. All this had to be done because Vinesh is 29 years old and by the next Olympics she will be 33. In such a situation, new players would come and the competition would become tough. Before the semi-finals, her weight was 49.9 kg. And that was when she was eating very little and drinking very little water for many days. Then she played three successful matches, so there was probably a loss of energy, to compensate for which she might have had to take some diet. Due to this, her weight increased by 2.8 kg. She worked hard all night to reduce it. By morning, she lost 2.7 kg, but missed 100 grams. Sakshi Malik, who is herself a wrestler, says that she even got blood drawn so that she could lose weight. Obviously, she ate something that increased her weight so much. You must remember that when Vinesh decided to participate in the 50 kg weight category, many wrestling experts were saying that she should not do so. Obviously, there was a reason for this. Undoubtedly, Vinesh Phogat is a very passionate player and has proved herself on many occasions, but the conspiracy that is being talked about now does not make sense. Not only this, those who are saying that she was disqualified just because of 100 grams, should understand that this is Olympics, not a village competition where you can make some mistakes. It has its own rules and regulations, which all the players have to follow. The best referees from all over the world are called in. Everything is videographed, so stop making baseless allegations. Everyone is sad about Phogat being disqualified. But what can you do? Do not distract the players by saying provocative things, rather encourage them.

why tata steel share get drastically down

China routing cheap steel imports via South East countries could derail Indian steel investments: TV Narendran

China could be routing cheaper steel into India through South East countries which can derail the investments made by Indian steel industry, T V Narendran, Managing Director, Tata Steel told businessline.

“The Indian steel industry has been a good example of private sector investments. All the steel companies including Tata Steel, AMNS, JSPL and JSW have announced significant capex. Our appeal to the government is not to let it get derailed due to cheap imports and all the taxes.” he said.

Narendran’s comments comes even as steel companies are facing a double whammy of slowing exports and rise in imports. Tata Steel believes that the government should look at imports both from China and from South-East Asia. Some of the imports coming from Southeast Asia are basically Chinese exports to those countries and it is being rerouted to India, said Narendran. Tata Steel fears that unbridled cheap imports from China to derail the huge investment plans and hamper the recent capacity additions.

In FY 24, India imported 8.3 million tonne of finished steel, up 38.1 per cent from a year earlier. In the same period, steel exports increased only 11 per cent to 7.5 mt.

With lower exports, steel companies have diverted excess capacity into domestic market putting pressure on prices.

In a bid to protect its industry, US President Joe Biden has imposed a duty of 25 per cent on certain Chinese steel products. Last month, the US prevented China from circumventing its tariffs on steel and aluminium by routing it through Mexico and levied 25 per cent tariff on Mexican steel. Previously, that steel would have entered the country duty free.

Most of the imports from China are at a price where even the steel companies in that country lose money.

“If I am allowed to lose $50 a tonne on selling steel and still survive, then it is a different story. So in a market economy, you cannot make losses, keep producing steel and keep selling. This is what is happening in China,” he said.

It is not about competitiveness, that is a reality and that is why world over, Chinese steel are being looked at differently, he added.

“In India, where you have iron ore, vibrant market and people willing to invest to make steel, do not let it get derailed by imports coming in at predatory prices,” said Narendran.
